GRR? Haven't heard that. Pardon my ignorance, but what does that mean?

JustPlainLucas

It usually means my dog smells another animal nearby.

Eh. At my school we have a bunch of vending machines, but they're only turned on during certain points of the day. I think that works just fine.

I think kids at school should be able to inject sugar directly into their veins.

no. my school shuts the pop machines off during the day and it just makes me mad. if i want to drink a pop i should be able to. because of our governer, our district (and most districts in michigan) are under funded and having pop machines on would help us to make a lot of money. it doesn't stop me though, i just buy one in the morning. it's up to me to decide if i want to drink pop or not.

No. I think if you're going to teach kids to make smart choices about nutrition a wide variety of food choices should be available at school. In the real world soft drinks are available everywhere so, taking them out of schools isn't really preparing kids to make smart nutritional choices once they're out of school.

Coke and Pepsi need to be kicked out. This is Capitalism once again creeping it's way into your everyday life. Don't get me wrong....I am a hopeless soda addict. Here's my problem with Coke & Pepsi. They basically have exclusive contracts from your government to be the soda pop vending dictator in your region.

This is totally unfair to all other beverage vendors who I am sure would love to have their drink in a vending machine at your school.

I don't like the idea of banning things that aren't illegal. Students should be able to drink pop if they want to. Though if my school banned pop, I'd just bring my own.

I don't think schools should carry pop, no...but I also understand that it's a tempting proposition as the companies pay the school for the opportunity.

Hell, my university is sponsored by Pepsi, which means if I want something that isn't Dr. Pepper I have to walk a few blocks and buy it myself.

But high schools shouldn't have the machines at all. Pop isn't good for you, and your average high school student is not gifted enough to realize that they shouldn't be drinking carbonated corn syrup.

I have less of a problem with it in the US, though, since taxpayer money doesn't pay for fatty's hospital bills. In Canada the little porkers' treatment comes out of my income tax.
