Should the entire US speak english? Should we pay for classes for immigrants?

I personally think it would make more sense if we all spoke one language.

Since the majority speaks english, I think it makes sense that immigrants learn the language of the land

but we shouldnt demonize them, we should give them free classes to get basic english down.

What do you think? I am talking about legal immigrants here.

That would be a valid point. Considering the US is a multicultural place (spanish, french, chinese, arab, etc) that would make things better for everyone. :)

if a foreigner moves here, then yes, i think they should know English, or at least enough to be able to communicate with me effectively.

I think it would be beneficial if Americans learned to speak more than just English.

Yeah, immigrants should learn English. If you are going to live in a country you should speak the language of that country. I don't want to have to learn a second language just to be able to communicate with others in my own country.Spanish becoming almost as common in America as English is just ridiculous. We should have a slogan "English or gtfo"

Other countries have people speaking different languages, so why change from that?

Officially we don't have a language, but it is known that Americans speak english.

It's a hard language to learn but never-the-less, immigrants should still learn to speak it if they want to get ahead in the USA. But the bilingual classes are a joke and *insert minority* history month. We shouldn't be adopting their whatever culture or language they practice, it should be the opposite.

I don't honestly care if they don't speak English. It's not like overnight half the country is going to be speaking nothing but Spanish.

People who don't speak English in this country usually don't get really well paying jobs as they cannot communicate well with others.

If you come to america, you should learn english. I think there should be penalties for those who speak different languages in public places because for all we know it could translate into "Is you gun loaded" or something. Stanley09

Every single government document ever made in this country has been written in English. If the immigrants cannot speak English then they should stay out until they can.
