I've seen some pretty retarded teenagers behind the wheel, also, I've seen plenty of retarded older drivers. Awareness more than age is important, you hit someone with a car they die, but a lot of people of all ages can't seem to understand that.
No...the reason why a lots of younger drivers get into accidents is because driving is a new concept for them and like anyone of any age, you'll always experiment and push to the limits something new in your life, especially of that magnitude.Fortier
That's true to a certain point. Yes it's a new and big concept to them, but at the same time, they don't understand the consequences. I've taken flying lessons off and on for a few years and remember the first time I was left in the little Cessna single engine prop plane all alone and told, "Just take it up and around and try not to have a bumpy touchdown." I about shat myself because I realized what would happen if i messed up. Many younger folks don't realize that driving a vehicle doesn't make them invincible until it's too late.
The main reason why there are so many accidents at that age is inexperience.
Raising the age limit won't do anything but make more accidents with 18-20 year olds.

That's true to a point as well...but there are some things they have to learn the hard way. Raising the driving age will doubtlessly decrease the number accidents...but I don't think its worth the freedom that all the responsible teen drivers will lose.

If inexperience is the reason, then why not just lower the age to 14 or 10 or heck, whenever they can physically sit in the driver's seat of a vehicle and step on the gas and turn the steering wheel?

Because they need to mature to a certain point. I have friends who are 18 and just started driving who are much worse drivers than me. I'm only 17, but I've been drving for two years.
When I started out I would've died if I tried to get on the freeway. When I started driving every turn was a 90 degree angle, every stop was hard, and every acceleration was jerky. That wouldn't have changed between the age of 16 and 18.

True, but I'm 17, and I'm guilty of driving like I stole it. But the thing is I don't do that when other lives are at risk. I do it on empty streets because I know if I hit a car we are both screwed. And I guess I have the racer mentality too, which doesn't help :?[QUOTE="Sir_Marwin"]Or better yet razor scooters.Couldn't they just use mopeds >___>

I would definitely prefer a racetrack to the street. Streets are.....boring :? Definitely have the need for speed. Im surprised I havn't gotten a speeding ticket actually :D[QUOTE="Whicker89"]Its 17 here, and still most fatal accidents are drivers between ages 17 - 25, but tha doesnt mean it needs to be highered it just kills off all the bad driversFortier
Hell yeah, natural selection for the win!
Yea, I'm gonan have to agree wtih this one too.I also think it should be 18. 17 for a permit, 18 to drive alone.
16 year old drivers are horrible, and they get into more drugs and underage drinking that way. Not that I don't enjoy underage drinking, but I didn't drink until I was 19.
I also agree that high school drivers are too hot-headed, and they try to race and all kinds of immature crap. 16 year old females talk on like 6 cell phones, while texting, and talking to 4 people in their car when they drive... It's pathetic.
Uhh...if you're saying racing is immature... :| Tell that to Micheal Schumacher. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were saying street racing. And I don't really see how going fast on a completely empty street is ...that dangerous. I don't understand that...it's as if people think that the second I go above 80 mph all my tires will explode, my doors will blow off, and my engine will catch fire.I also think it should be 18. 17 for a permit, 18 to drive alone.

its not that spontaneous combustion will happen when you hit 80 its that if your stupid enough to street race your probably stupid enough to drive high or drunk and then even if the street is empty chances are your going to hit something like a house, the other person's car, a tree, or someone crossing the street. plus you could have another idiot in the car who thinks its funny to grab the wheel and jerk it around. and even if someone isnt high or drunk they may be stupid enough to crash on an empty street. sorry if that sounds kinda nerdy and seems like"better-than-thou" talk im not trying to do that just making a point.
