we shouldn't have to pay for water.

sukraj

Who's going to pay for the salaries and equipment of the people purifying, shipping, and storing the water? The water gods?

saying "its a right" is pretty useless since so many don't have the means to get drinkable water

BossPerson

And if it all goes private that will increase dramatically due to the inherent human greed for money, its a sorry state for modern society to be in where human lives are worth less than paper:evil:

I don't see how you can privatize water when it falls right out of the freaking sky once or twice a week.

People would buy their own collectors and filters and just store and conserve it on their own.

It should be a human right. Without it, you cannot survive. It's like air in a sense.

It's absolutely nothing like air. Water requires labor and equipment to purify, transport, and store.

Just about all living things require water to survive. Therefore, it should be a basic human right (seriously, you know we're pretty f*cked if humans can't get water, yet other animals can with relative ease).

Water should be controlled by the government, but it shouldn't be a "right".

Water should be free only if you earn it.

frannkzappa

I wonder what the criteria for earning water is.

It should definitely be a right.  If I decide to build a house in the country, the government should pay for somebody to come out and dig me a well and hook up all my plumbing for me.

If they don't I should be able to sue them for it.

Why should the government be obligated to pay to dig your well because you've decided to live too far from existing water lines?

Since water is necessary for life, water is thus a right (same with food). How that principle should work out juridically is of course up to debate. On the other hand the laborer deserves his wages, and thus companies that refine or purify the water should have a right to profit from doing so, however they cannot let a person thirst to death if the person cannot afford the water.

Water is basically infinite.  There is no reason to privatize it.

Not water, free water.

everybody will have water availabe so long as they pay taxes.

Under an efficient technocratic system there should be no "politics" involved.

Add an incorrupt meritocracy and things should be simple and smooth.

In principle healthcare, at least necessary healthcare, is a right. Once again the juridical expression of that is debatable.

Companies and people can't privatize all water, rain falls where it falls. I think privatization comes into play where water is located on the ground, for instance when one owns the property in which a body of water is located.

Privatizing basic needs of humans will end up as it always does under capitalism. People will be taken for everything they have because they know you cant go without it. If they don't get what they want they will hold water ransom. Its the same with health care in the US "So you need a open heart surgery that will be 250,000$" sure they saved your life but they also destroyed it.

Just about all living things require water to survive. Therefore, it should be a basic human right (seriously, you know we're pretty f*cked if humans can't get water, yet other animals can with relative ease).

Celldrax

Nothing is stopping you from getting water like other animals do. Go drink from a river or a puddle. You're not paying for the water, you're paying for the services required to collect it, purify it, store it and distribute it right to your tap.

and right now their are both municipal and private supplies, i want that option. no one way, if i want a well and/or wish to collect water on my land, i should not be taxed for what nature provides my land, i will grant that rivers are tricky as up stream always effects down. at the same time i have no problems with municipal supplies, that is what i eat drink and clean with. the more choices the better. i do have problems with politicians effecting water supplies and their quality, BOO george bush Sr. BOO!

There are laws and regulations that prohibit corporations from dumping toxic wastes into bodies of water, and many corporations also have their own environmental policies as well. Yes some corporations do pollute waters, but they are not the only one's who do so, individuals, proprietary businesses and even some governments have also dumped waste into water.
