should we use death row/lifer prisoners as test subjects or gladiators.

I honestly think some of them would agree just to have something to do. We could also use them as test subjects, but we might mess up and give them chemicals that give them superpowers. But if we could control them they would become superpowered gladiators. Imagine that sitting down and turning on VS network to see Dutch"the butcher"Mason a former butcher who murdered his wife and ate her, fighting Father Jake"the snake" a former priest who molested a young boy and strangled him. Weapons would be scattered around the arena. Dutch grabs his signature butcher knife, while Jake tries to execute his famous pulpit strangle.

The butcher slices his hand off, and the priest bolts for a pistol. Its hard to aim with one hand, and the guns would have limited low caliber ammo. He gets one shot between Jacks eyes. But thanks to lab experiments by his sponsors Microsoft his skull is bullet proof. He chuckes his knife at Father Jakes chest but its stopped by the Bible under his shirt. They scrap for a few minutes until Jake bites the butcher on neck(becaus of dental testing that coldgate did on his teeth they are harder then diamonds). The Butchers head comes flying off, and the paster gets his prize.... a bag of M&Ms and a dull rusty hook for his hand.

That would be a great way to

No. But all prisoners should be used as cheap, hard labour. We have the technology these days to keep them in control and use them for things like 24-hour road construction or other harsh forms of labour that normal citizens wouldn't want to do. They are in prison to pay back their victims and society... they should be working for society.

Most of those jobs need skilled workers, not anyone can build a house. I would be better to give that money to hard working citizens who know what they are doing.

Depends on the tests... if they are allready concluded to be harmless, then I would not care.

They should have the option of vulanterring for medical tests tho, in exchange of upping thier livingconditions in jail, but I think they should have the choice. (these tests would not be in the "harmless" category tho.

I would NOT have them fight for others amuzement... that thought is cruel by default, and sort of disturbing.

The less dangerous prisoners should also be used as laber where it is needed in society (ditchdigging, trashcollectiong and so on). the dangerous ones I wouldnever let out of maximum security. So lifers are out.

Nah, I'd rather we keep them locked up instead of turning them into guinea pigs. Kinda devalues human life if we start doing that, and as a society that values it, I hate to think what we'd become if we begin to lower our morals just a tad.

I'm not talking about skilled labour jobs. I'm talking about pure labour jobs... the modern "rock breaking." Like cleaning up garbage, hauling building materials or other jobs that need doing and don't have anyone that wants to do them. There is no reason to keep prisoners in a cell, feed them nice food and then have them do nothing to pay back society for their crimes.

With the recession anyone is willing to do anything for money including hard labor. Allowing criminals to work for cheap wages will deter normal people from getting jobs as companys will obviously hire the cheapest labor.

No, you don't pay them anything. They are in prison to repay a debt to society.

Another possibility could be that you don't hire staff for a prison and make the prisoners do all the work for themselves. Do prisoners even do laundry and cook meals anymore?

Which they most likely will. Like I said MILLIONS are jobless because of the recession, human being will do ANYTHING to get money and that includes hard labor or anything which normal people wouldn't normally do under normal conditions (non-recession). Again as I've said criminals will most likely be paid very little/or not at all and companys will most likely hire the cheapest labor to save on management costs.

Throw in some animals as well, like a some dude riding an ass with a lance in his hand or something.

Not hire staff for the thousands of prisons around the world? Great thousands more jobless. Its not like prisoners are well fed and they get a change of clothes everyday. Besides they are locked up in a cage like animals for life and no chance of parole (for serious crimes) isn't that enough? I mean if I were the victim I would much rather see them locked up in a cage than "working".

[QUOTE="cousin_eddy"]:o did I just go back in time to ancient rome!?!tzar3

I wish...

I wouldn't mind seeing criminal scum for gladiator battles in an arena.

Throw in some animals as well, like a some dude riding an ass with a lance in his hand or something.

Yes one guy against 3 Pitbulls, but then the animals would have to be treated cruely to make them fight. animal cruelty ain't right.

I'm sorry, I've seemed to have accidently taken the wrong time portal to Nazi Germany.......

No we shouldn't use Death Row people as test subjects, hell there should be no Death Row, an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

Most overused, overrated quote ever.

Not really, it is hypocritical to say "Killing is wrong, so we are going to kill you."

I just really want you to show how you're establishing that jailees will be competing for the same jobs. I mean, what evidence have you that normal employers would even be willing to hire ex-cons?Vandalvideo
But were not in normal conditions right now are we? Its recession far from normal, companys are laying-off employees and are still struggling to pay off the remaining employees and still turn up a profit. So if a new cheap source of labor appears (prisoners) wouldn't it be logical to hire them to save on management costs? and to answer your question,no I don't have any evidence, this is all speculation on my part since it was suggested that prisoners be used as cheap labor it would be logical to assume that they would be competing with normal people.

More like: You have infringed on the right to life of others, so yours is revoked.

It may or may not be logical, but first I need to be shown that a company is willing to sacrifice hiring policies in a recession, especially something as serious as ex-con status.

There's no need to have humans forced to play for their lives. Now play for candy or cookies, that's something different.
