Should Young Adults Move out of Parents House at 18 ?

I think the law is a little overrated when they say 18 because its really hard out here lately but then again I kinda agree because Parents seem to act overpowered with house rules (at least around here) and love to kick people who turn 18 out asap... Is it right for Kids to move out at 18 and get things together ? Or no ?

No, they should move out when they are ready, and capable of providing for themselves. And last I checked, there isn't a law that forces kids to move out once they turn 18.

I mean if they want to, they can, but I don't see why they should feel an obligation to do so if home life is fine. I was living at my parents' house until I was almost 23 since I took five years to graduate from college due to internships along the way.

Pretty much this. If I moved out now, I wouldn't even be able to afford a cardboard box to live in, and the real estate under the bridges are too expensive these days.

in the US, people are pretty much kicked out when they get around 18-20. I know one family, and they got each of their kids a plate (dinner plate) when they were born. They would eat off it for birthdays and the like. But when they turned 18, their father took them outside and broke the plate and said "Youre on your own" and have then two months lol. Seems needlessly cruel

They should move out when they're ready. There's nothing wrong with living with your parents when you're that young.

No, you should move out when you're ready, both from a maturity and financial standpoint. Of course if the relationship with the parents is strained you might need to leave home as soon as you can, but it will certainly make life harder. I have never heard of it being a law to move out at 18. :P

I still live with my parents and I'm 20. It's too expensive to get an apartment on campus, not to mention it would be difficult to work a 30-40 hour week on top of classes. My parents always tell me that I'm welcome to stay as long as I want, although I would like to eventually move out once I graduate. hockey73

The Law is kids CAN move out at 18 but it isn't necessary. It all depends on the situation, if they are merely living there to mooch, they should move out get a job a live a real life. If they are going to college or are working on a job to get on their feet or are still in high school than I see no problem living with parents still. It's just kinda weird if you live there just to live there though. ferrari2001

I definitely know that I would NOT have the money by then.

Money and work hours are scarce for me.

No, but I think they should make a conscious effort to get ready to move out within the subsequent 4 or 5 years.

My parents said they are expecting me to stay with them a few years after I'm out of college unless I get a really good job offer or something to that effect, so moving out at 18 seems like a horrible idea.

I'll move out when I finish college. If I weren't going to college I think I would just move out at 18

I'm moving out this week, and I'm 17. Good riddance: I love my parents and my family, but I've been wanting to leave for a couple of years now.

In this economy, moving out right after finishing high school doesn't seem too realistic to me.

it's truly impossiable move out now days at 18... your just getting out high school/ or still fisnishing. or your going off to school and you still need someone help pay. or out of school at 18 in a apertment. your going struggle like hellk2theswiss

I think it depends on the child and the situation - I left when I was 18

2. goto and finish college

3. find a nice starting job and move out, if you were smart in college and didn't waste your time in the arts then this part is easy.

Well the way the econimy is, that could be a difficult task, but it should be something all young adults strive for.

WHich is not surprising, science graduates are the only ones in the labour market where competition is not between workers but between firms bidding up salaries to get these graduates to work for them. There is no shortage of jobs for any engineering graduate unlike folks from the arts and humanities.

they should not have to but i watched two older brothers stay around up into their 20's and mom and dad and the brothers argued about crap all the time.

i cant stand that arguing crap, i need a nice tranquil environment.

i had a job found a roomate and they allowed me to move out at 16 and i avoided all the drama.
