Shouldn't there be a white history month?

I mean, if everyone is equal then why is there black history month? What about Caucasian, Korean, Afghan, etc. history month? Really, by having a history month implies that the race in question is different and should be looked at differently. (For better or worse.)

Well isn't Black history month, so we can learn things that black people have done right?

But in my History classes, US history mostly, we pretty much only learn about white people, and we learn about a couple black people, the really famous ones, but mostly white people. So, yea, pretty much every month is white history month.

But yea, to me, it doesn't seem fair that black people get their own month, but whatever. Why not asians? Or Mexicans?

I say we just get rid of Black History month and assimilate it into American History.

I think Black History month was necessary back in the days of segregation and legislative oppression of Blacks. However, now that we're past that point, it should be done away with and assimilated into general American History. Even Morgan Freeman agrees.

I don't think there should be any of these "months." I think that perhaps there was a time when they were useful, but now I sense that they only divide people. Historical events and figures should be taught and discussed based on accomplishments and events, not singled out because they are part of any particular race or religion.

I think its fine for white people to be proud of their heratige and to explore it... in fact, I don't think they do that enough...

The problem is that phrases like "white power" and "white pride" have been hijacked by neo-nazi's and militant racisits... even things like "white heratige" are seen as automatically racist, because we have allowed hate groups to take those concepts and twist them into evil...

Now, if I were to start an "Anglo American Culture Club" at my school for example, the first thing anyone would think is "thats a racist club", no matter how I went about it...

It doesn't make much sense. Black people have a month of their own because of the s*** they had to put up in the U.S. (I dare say, still do) due to racism and several segregation laws, or, in Africa's case, the damages that the neo-colonialism promoted by those from UK and Europe in general to a population constitued mostly by black people.

Why should white people have a month to recall their history when they have (at least recently) had no damage or negative prejudice due to the tone of their skin? Makes no sense.

I think, as displayed by a lot of this thread, any "blank-history-month" only serves to divide.

Funny thing about black history month, It only talks about the Blacks in teh US. It is actually an insult to black people as African History would be far more interesting. But then again, most people don't know that alot of the slaves were captured by other african tribes and sold to the Europeans. But I'd rather read about Mali than read about Harriet Tubman again.
