Do you know shows that have like a pretty neutral cast to showcase their unique or interesting "main character"?

Shows guilty of this are House MD, The Mentalist... what else?

House doesn't have a bland cast

it's just that not everybody is quite out on the fringe that House is. Being sane however doesn't make you bland.

Family Matters. There's a reason why people just started calling it "Urkel."

House kind of has a bland cast. They're not static characters, but over the course of six seasons of House, nothing has really changed about them. Chase got punched out and now he's suddenly Mr. Cool. Cameron turned blonde. Of course, not everybody has life-changing experiences, but it's a TV show, and if that's what they call development, then yes, they're bland.

Take Battlestar Galactica, for example. You can probably poke holes in this one, but so many of the characters gradually changed over the four seasons. And it's done believably. Col. Tigh went from a seemingly incompetent drunk (miniseries) to Adama's most loyal and trusted friend. Even a background character like Gaeta had his moments and awesome send off in the last season.

House is not really an interesting character to me, just an old braggart walking the hospital corridors thinking "lolol im awesome", while strangely having an epiphany and curing the patients in the last minute every time. :P I would go for Sheldon of TBBT. But it depends only on you, either you find him interesting in comparison with the other slack nerdy characters or you find him severely annoying.

Unfortunately, aside from the antagonists, Dexter is slowly becoming that. I love the show to death but Dexter is starting to become the only reoccurring character I give a **** about.

I agree with this. Some of the subplots I thought worked fine, but I really don't care at ALL about Batista's love life, or LaGuerta's personal problems.

House is not interesting to start with. But yeah...the other cast members are there solely to prop up House...they have no real personality of their own. That said...the show is very formulaic and seeing one show....you've seen them all.

...that's the entire point. It's no different than reading a Sherlock Holme's book. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just how the show is developed.

I only cared about the subplots if they were relevant to the main plot-line. The character of Dexter is what makes the show so intriguing. Every time the show focuses on other characters it loses its charm and uniqueness and appears to be just another TV Drama.

I agree.

If you only watch a handful of shows, it seems rigidly formulaic, but it actually does a great job of developing drama in the relationships between the secondary characters if you keep with it.

Well House is only interesting when I'm plopped up on my favorite lazy chair and feel more relaxed than the himself.

Then it's an okay show that's relatively entertaining to watch. However I'd be bored out of my wits if I watched on the computer, on Hulu or Fox.com

Isn't that different strokes for different folks? Anyway, I love House but i do agree sometimes I wish that House actually figured stuff out instead of just having a random epiphany in the last 5 minutes. Seriously, you can always tell if the diagnoses is correct by how much time is left in the show. I almost prefer it when they don't even have a patient to treat. Otherwise, My Name is Earl probably is the only one I can think of. If it's bland then I usually don't watch it.

Nearly every character on My Name is Earl was interesting to me. Nobody was bland and I miss that show

whats sad....is that i have a couple of people in my family in the medical community.....half the stuff they do in the show.....is pointless....the er doctor im related to....he can tell you whats wrong with the patient 4/5 times after 15 minutes.....sad that it take house "the best diagnostic doctor ever" and 55minutes....last 5 being right on....to figure it out
