I just watched the movie and i only give it a 5/10, the first hour was good but it fell apart after that, just wondering what others thought of it.
Great stuff. Atmosphere is effective. Acting is great. The last line solidified what I previous thought as a really good film to a great film. 8/10wolverine4262Yeah that last line was awesome!
I also thought the scene at the lake was expertly executed
Not to be a downer, but i really didn't like the last line.

"Which would be worse, to live as a monster or to die as a good man?"
me and the wife saw it at the theater and i just picked it up yesterday on blu ray. amazing movie, scorsese can do no wrong. 8.5/10
I'd give it 7/10. I guessed the ending like halfway through the movie. I thought the last line in the movie was really good.
..
Throw in some completely ridiculous and out of place scenes. Look hes blowing up a car, why the **** would he do that? They werent looking anywhere near him at that point in time. Ohh look my friend is lying at the bottom of a cliff, then a lady appears, then lets discuss politics. Did he just stop caring about his friend? What about the speech with the Warden and with the cell mate, both so clearly out of place that they screamed "will be explained when you see the ending!"..
Such a shame given the pedigree involved....

Such a shame given the pedigree involved..These sorts of comments are what irritate me the most about Shutter Island. I just wish that people wouldn't put such an emphasis on the 'twist.' Even if you guessed the 'twist' before it was explained, you could still enjoy it. Guessing the 'twist' doesn't invalidate the rest of the film. It's a great psychological thriller. It's very true to the book, so if you want to complain, complain about the source material.Guessing the 'twist' doesn't invalidate the rest of the film. Agreed. It's Martin Scorsese, not M. Night Shyamalan.

Come on now.. -______- tropic thunder was horrible in the last 2/3I thought the same when I first saw it, but upon a repeated viewing, I came to a new conclusion. This movie is a masterpiece.
SPOILERS AHEAD (sorry, can't do spoiler tags for some reason):
Like I said, during my first viewing I was able to see the twist coming miles ahead, from around the 1 hour mark, and it didn't seem like a good tiwst at all. To me, it almost seemed cliche to go with the "he was crazy all along thing". Its almost as bad as the "it was all a dream" cliche.
However, I now realize that this twist wasn't a twist at all. It was a fake twist that Scorsese put there to confuse us, just like the doctors at Shutter Island were trying to confuse Teddy.
It was real, and Shutter Island was a real evil place where they did all those experiments. The last line is proof that Teddy was not crazy.

You sure about that? I thought the dream sequences made it clear that he was a schizophrenic trying to forget what happened at the lake.I thought the same when I first saw it, but upon a repeated viewing, I came to a new conclusion. This movie is a masterpiece.

By the way...I like how a whole bunch of people talka bout the "twist" as if it had any true bearing on the film. There's no true and definite answer to what really happened during the story and the people that think toherwise did not examine it well.
