LAS VEGAS - President Barack Obama has a Sin City problem that won't go away. Nevada state officials and residents alike are still fuming nearly two years after Obama discouraged corporations that received bailout money from holding lavish meetings in Las Vegas. Then last year, Obama said Americans saving for college shouldn't blow the cash in Sin City. State officials and residents in this economically ravaged state perceived the comments as a rant against the tourism industry. The friction has resurfaced as Obama counts on Nevada's support for re-election next year. He's to visit a Las Vegas neighborhood Monday as part of a nationwide tour to sell his jobs plan. Former Nevada Gov. Bob List says Republicans plan to remind voters at every opportunity that Obama slammed the industry that employs most Nevadans. Story here. Say bye-bye to Nevada votes, Barack.

How dare he recommend saving money for raising education costs instead of blowing it on binge drinking and gambling?

Tourism is a big part of Nevada's economy. No brainer.

Tourism is Nevada's biggest industry. They also now have the highest unemployment rate in the entire country.

Well then they should fix that, you believe in state rights, right? Guess it's the states fault. Or hey blame the Businesses for not going there. Blame the banks for trashing the economy making people less willing to go out and gamble and party. You're blaming someone for giving sensible advice. If they're having money trouble then maybe they shouldn't be out throwing money at expensive strippers and escorts while gambling their extremely high CEO pay away. Don't hate the player, hate the game works for this situation. You guys go on and on about free market but when someone gives the free market advice it's the advice givers fault and not the one making the choice. The hypocrisy is amazing.

"Nevada state officials and residents alike are still fuming nearly two years after Obama discouraged corporations that received bailout money from holding lavish meetings in Las Vegas. Then last year, Obama said Americans saving for college shouldn't blow the cash in Sin City."

First people complain about how corporations waste bailout money on things like "lavish meetings in Las Vegas". Then they complain when the president advises corporations not to waste that money on lavish trips. Geez people are stupid

The market can never be found at fault. Only the government. Business makes a choice that affects the American people negatively? Blame the President.

What are they going to make in Nevada that will be competitive with products from China or Mexico? There is no market for a new industry.

Look at the 2008 Nevada map. Every county except two was red but Las Vegas made the state go blue. If 50%+1 in Las Vegas go for the GOP candidate Obama loses.

He's toast in Nevada. His comments will be used against him in Vegas.

I would even argue Obama is in major trouble nationally. Biden recently stated the GOP could win because of lack of results in one of his honest gaffs.

The president of united states publicly attacked their biggest industry several times. Nevada has the highest unemployment rate and foreclosure rates. It's enough to help Vegas from going blue to red.

Six states last election were decided by 3% or less. It won't take much for some of the blue states to switch.

So yes his colossally stupid remarks on anti-Vegas will probably cost him Nevada.

Lol you over blow the comment so much, I bet you no one voting even remembers it. You act as if he came out and said "Vegas is a place of great sin and evil, no one should go there". All he did was give a "stop living outside your means" statement as advice. If they took it then it's their fault.

What does this have to do with me? Even Harry Reid was against Obama on this:

"The President needs to lay off Las Vegas and stop making it the poster child for where people shouldn't be spending their money," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat. "

Better blame the companies that pulled their vacations from Vegas then. All I see is you trying to say this is Obama's fault when it's clearly not. If Nevada wants to blame Obama for this then maybe they should take a good hard look at who's actually to blame here. If they refuse to reelect Obama because of a harmless statement then that's hilariously petty.

I thought he was saying more along the lines of "if you're saving for college and are having trouble paying for it, maybe you shouldn't spend a lot of money on partying and gambling"

Mind-blowing that's been spun into a negative thing.

So should I assume, using your own logic, that you're for CEOs going on lavish extremely expensive meetings while giving their employees the shaft? Above posts analogy is more eloquent I think though. Spinning things into what people don't mean is fun.

[QUOTE="Mafiree"]So, Obama doesn't even want people enjoying themselves on vacation now......JML897

I thought he was saying more along the lines of "if you're saving for college and are having trouble paying for it, maybe you shouldn't spend a lot of money on partying and gambling"

Mind-blowing that's been spun into a negative thing.

Vegas is a very cheap vacation if you want it to be......

[QUOTE="UniverseIX"]

So...Topsemeg55, let me get this straight. You support business executives, and bank owners using bail out money to hold parties in Las Vegas?

Necrifer

Who said that?

+2 to Necrifer.:)

How dare he recommend saving money for raising education costs instead of blowing it on binge drinking and gambling?

Tourism is a big part of Nevada's economy. No brainer.

Basically this. Alot of people are really one sided whenever they think of what barack is doing.

So should I assume, using your own logic, that you're for CEOs going on lavish extremely expensive meetings while giving their employees the shaft? Above posts analogy is more eloquent I think though. Spinning things into what people don't mean is fun.

So, companies are evil profit maximizes except in this case? If the conventions were useless and unnecessary (meaning they were losing the company money) I am sure the CEOs and upper management would rather have that in their pocket then have to waste money on a convention hall.

Ahahaha, that's funny. Yeah I'm sure those CEOs and managers won't going on wasteful "meetings" and partying in Vegas. Oh hey wait why would Vegas be mad about losing their business then? Man that damn reality getting in the way of rhetoric.

I wouldn't travel to Vegas, as my state has casinos, and I've never felt the need to go and gamble in any of them.

[QUOTE="topsemag55"][QUOTE="Ace6301"]Give sensible advice, lose votes. Good stuff.Dark_Knight6

Doesn't go over very well in a city that depends upon tourism to survive. Nevada has amongst the top unemployment in the nation.

You seem to be implying he should have given bad advice simply to bring in votes.

...or he should have kept his mouth shut and let people make their own mistakes...

...like THAT would ever happen with a Democrat.

I don't completely understand what you are attempting to say here..... But, Vegas profits whether the meeting generates the company $10 million or $0.

What do you think of businesses spending tax payer money on expensive escorts and gambling? What do you think of people living outside their means?

The first question was answered in my original post....... The second question I don't see how it is relevant.

So answer to the first question is yes then? That's really the only answer I could get out of your first post which was just spin about Obama hating vacations or some such. Not going to answer? It's a "gotcha" question, isn't it?
