Here are some of my opinions on Musical Genres:

Rock - I love Classic Rock. I find Rock music from the 50s to be good, but sometimes it can be heavily repetitive. Folk-Rock combine to make a beautiful Genre. Modern Rock is okay, but MTV has completely ruined good Rock music. I believe there are some very good Modern Mainstream Rock bands/artists, though. Such as The Strokes, or OK Go. However, I think that The Allman Brothers Band are the best Rock Band ever (Yes, I am prepared for the horrendous flaming for that statement).

Mexican - Pretty much all new Mexican Music (Tejano) is terrible. However, Ranchera, and the more traditional mexican music is beautiful, and those classic artists could write songs above the same ADADAE scales. I love Mexican Music. My second favorite Genre

Blues - Yes, sometimes it is heavily repetitive. I believe that it is not very hard to write a blues song, but I think that blues guitarists (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix) generally have more talent than your average Rock guitarist

Rap - Obviously I dislike artists like Nelly, and 50 Cent. I do think that Kanye West (Although a huge ego) is a good Rapper and I think Outkast makes the best Hip-Hop music. I really liked "Idlewild Blue" by them. I really don't listen to much Rap or Hip Hop

Classical - I love it. I just recently got into it, and I love the composition. My favorite song is Claude DeBussy's "Clair De Lune", performed in D major by John Williams and Julian Bream

Metal - I haven't heard every metal song. Judging from the ones I have heard, I find it to care more about the level of "hardcore-ness" than actual composition. I find it be far less a greater genre than Rap, and sometimes it can take very little talent to make. I either haven't cared for a Metal song, or I disliked a metal song. I have never heard a metal song I like. Guitarist tend to focus too much on speed sometimes. IT ISN'T THAT HARD TO PLAY A GUITAR FAST!

Soul - Stevie Wonder is definitely one of the top 5 greatest musical minds of the 20th century. He is the best Soul artist. "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" has great songwriting and vocals. He is innovative, and a great singer. I also like Earth, Wind & Fire, Al Green, Marving Gaye and some others.

If you like "Clair de Lune" then find a rendition performed on solo piano.  It's heartbreaking.

If you like impressionistic music (like "Clair de Lune"), try this:

Gustav Mahler's "Symphony No. 5 Movement III: Adagietto. Sehr langsam".

I'll definitely try the piano. I personally only like classical done by solo instruments or just one or two musicians.

I generally agree with most of this. except I have more respect for Metal than rap. I will go out and say 90% of metal is horrible, but some metal music is good.

But I love classic rock, hard rock, and blues

btw I agree that The Allman brothers band is underrated, but it is not the best band ever. Led Zeppelin or The Beatles deserve that title.

More respect for rap? Metal doesn't take talent?...

Ok, you can prefer rap, but metal takes talent and skill. Ok, sometimes the vocals can resume themselves to some dude roaring, but in some cases it you can understand what they are saying it can be very interesting.

basically, it means any band who is radically different from whatever is popular at the time. The Velvet Underground would be classified as Alternative Rock (imo they are the first ever Alt Rock band)

Carlos, here is some good metal that hopefully you'll like:

Opeth-Ghost of Perdition (Listen to this song all the way. There are so many layers to it it is insane)

Megadeth-Hangar 18 Live

In Flames-Dead Alone

The Sword-Winter's Wolves

Drowning Pool-Tear Away

Static-X-All In Wait

All That Remains-Whispers (I Hear You)

I will admit, metal IS NOT for everyone, and there is alot of emphasis on speed and heaviness, but at the same time it is a genre that takes an insane amount of talent to be noticed in. Shredding DOES take lots of skill, but at the same time if you can ONLY shred, then you obviously aren't an accomplished guitarist.

Also, I prefer their older music, but their newer music isn't as heavy as their older albums. Toxicity is my favorite of all their albums.

[QUOTE="Nisstyre_56"][QUOTE="Def_Jef88"]eeek, i cant stand SOAD.Nisstyre_56

Why? Is it the singing? I kind of like them. The singer reminds me of The Mars Volta

I tried to listen to that "cop suey" song and my ears nearly bled

I just think that LP is superior in every way possible....

Limp Bizkit??? Are you serious?

Since when does bizkit start with a P?

Linkin Park has credibility.... Despite how crappy they are. Limp Bizkit had "Rollin'". I won't say any more.

System of a Down are a bunch of Armenian dudes with too much time on their hands. They can't make music, plain and simple.

People are used to getting the wrong idea on what metal really is. Maybe it is because of all the mainstream rock artists that tend to call themselves metal. Breaking news: nu-metal and "alt-metal" is not real metal!

I wouldn't put Linkin Park under the category of metal, but I would also say that most of SOAD's newer music is not metal, either.
