[QUOTE="Berzz"][QUOTE="LostProphetFLCL"][QUOTE="Berzz"]People are used to getting the wrong idea on what metal really is. Maybe it is because of all the mainstream rock artists that tend to call themselves metal. Breaking news: nu-metal and "alt-metal" is not real metal!LostProphetFLCL
No, people like you who try and claim that NU-METAL isn't real metal have no idea what you are talking about. Slipknot is real metal. Megadeth is real metal. Cannibal Corpse is real metal. Just cause you don't like the subgenre or band (I hate Cannibal Corpse) doesn't make it any less real metal. If nu-metal was "real" metal, then the bands that fit into the genre wouldn't be sellouts. By the way, none of those bands fit into the "real metal" I'm talking about. lmao that is just stupid! How are they sellouts? Linkin Park never changed their sound to appeal to more people and they don't whore themselves out constantly, therefore they aren't sellouts! You obviously have no clue what it means to be a sellout. Bands like Kiss are sellouts. Nu-metal happens to be popular and it in no way makes bands in the genre sellouts. BTW I wouldn't really call Katatonia metal anymore. They are more goth rock now than anything, and I must say I love it. I gotta get into their older stuff still. Thing is I don't have the money for it. As for death metal, it is probably the best metal genre there is now except for maybe thrash. With death metal you get amazing bands like Opeth and In Flames! Of course with thrash you get stuff like Megadeth, Nevermore, and Machine Head! BTW, have you checked out "The Blackening" by Machine Head yet? I got it the other day and it freaking ROCKS!!!Linkin park isn't metal and never was, they're an alt-rock band. Get your ears check dude.Â
KISS, btw, aren't sellouts, They're self-righteous attention whores and always have been :P But they aren't metal, either, they're rock. Just like AC/DC, except that the drummer's a drama queen, the singer's a closet-homosexual and the bassist would do better as a stand-up comedian. Yeah, that pretty much sums up KISS :P
But yes, nu-metal bands are sellouts because they're conforming to MTV's guidance of "proper" metal. The closest I've gotten to nu-metal is Lamb of God, which is more like Pantera laced with a hint of Testament. And not very good solos, but they have time on their side to grow at least - and they're making an effort. But bands like Korn and Slipknot only seem to care about money and image. Nu-Metal right now is an opportunity that's much abused and the merger with screamo is greatly unappreciated - and justifiably so.
