You don't need low trucks. Higher trucks have always been better. Trucks are made lower so you can put shock pads and stuff like that between the truck and the deckwithout making the board too high or higher than the standard height.
A standard plastic riser with a hole where the king pin is does reduce shock noticeably because the head of the kingpin doesn't punch the deck everytime you land. It alsoserves as washer which keeps the hardware from loosening as often. The soft risers tend to squish so they are just a waste of money.
You will most likely become accustomed to the board you ride. You get a feel for it. The first board you get won't be your favorite. The board might have too much concave or not enough. The bushing might be too soft or too hard. The trucks meight be too low or too high.
You have try different things. It's trial an error. Nobody can tell you what you like.
I prefered.
8" or an 8-1/4" board withstandard concave
Grind King trucks with a 1/8" rise
Dook's 1/8" riser pad
Shorty's 1" Hardware
Grind King Nut Locks
Independent'shardbushing(black)
Spitfire or Pig52-60mm wheels.
Standard ABEC-3 bearings.
Black Grip tape. Sand paper is sand paper soas long as it sticks to the board I don't care.
You may like something completely different.
Best set of wheels I ever put on my board was a set of high performance competitionroller skate wheels. The landings where soft and the board NEVER stopped rolling, there was no resistance like you get with standard urethane, but the wheels are expensive and I think only Spitfire makes them.
