Same with me. I have a fast metabolism, I can't gain that much fat at all.

I didn't really get to the point where I could live comfortably (not eating so much it made me sick) and gain weight until recently, when I stopped growing.

A year ago I was 6'4" and 145lbs. Now, after working out 3-4x a week and eating 1000 calorie pot pies before bed and other henouis atrocities against my digestive tract, I am 170lbs. Pretty much all muscle gain.

Kinda funny.

I use to weigh around 265 a year or so ago and now I weigh around 125 and can't gain anything.

I had the same problem back in high school and college - I spent a ton of time weightlifting, eating tons, but still remained 6'5" and 150-160lbs. I might have gained ten pounds of muscle in that process, but it didn't show. My body just stubbornly refused to listen to me. Then after university, beer drinking and eating massive meals and tons of snacks has resulted in me steadily climbing to 190lbs. I still look skinny, though, and I'm admittedly more out of shape than I have been in years, but part of me is kind of happy that I'm no longer a complete toothpick.

People actually thought they were making it up? Watching a skinny guy eat three times as much food as me in a day and not gain any weight was proof enough for me.

It's true, 4 years ago i was only 54kg and 194cm long, i had to eat 4000-5000 calories a day to gain weight.

And this was recommended from a deitist, i even got supplements to put in my food. Since it was almost impossible for me to eat that much in just food.

Nothing more frustrating for someone like me who is trying to LOSE weight than to see stuff like that...

I have seen a skinny friend of mine eat like a Double, 2 Spicy chicken sandwiches, and a large fry in one sitting at Wendy's and he ate meals like that REGULARLY while remaining a toothpick...

I fall into that category. I'm 5'8" and weigh 135 pounds. I can eat as much food as I want without ever gaining a pound. I would imagine that people like me need to consume an impractical number of calories per day to gain weight. Probably 10,000 calories per day, consistently.

Yep, that's pretty much me. I ate 3,500+ calories per day, every day, last spring/summer (May-September), and managed to only go from about 128 to 135 or so in over four months. I'm still only around 5'9" 145, which is a bit more average, I guess. But I lift weights up to five times a week and eat well, and still haven't seen much gain.

If you're being serious about gaining weight work up to adding a gallon of milk a day to your diet, count your calories , make sure that your actually going over your maintence for that day and a program like starting strength or 5,3,1 will work wonders

Well I'm what people would call "skinny", though I'd prefer to be called slim... skinny seems to be a disguised insult these days. But yeah, I could gain weight if I really, really tried... but I have better things to do than gorge myself all day in between trips to the gym.

I could gain weight if I maintained a diet of 2500 calories, I'm sure. But the thing is, I can get by on about 1500. I don't see the point in eating for the sake of it.

Let me guess

They eat like pigs and turn out to be skinny fat, a term used for skinny people who develop soft bits around their body. I'm sort of the same way, it's tough for me to gain weight but it's not impossible.

Eat 500 over your daily calorie maintenance, lift weights and you'll gain weight, maybe not as fast as some other people but you will. Even if you didn't lift any weights you'll still gain weight regardless as long as you're overeating but where the weight is distributed across your body depends on other factors.

It's pretty much genetic, skinny people can indeed get fat.

Sounds like me, only I weigh slightly less. I wish I could gain weight. I have been working out and stuff, but doesn't seem to help. But it does show somewhat.

I haven't exercised for maybe the last 10 years and I don;t eat healthy at all, yet I've always been thin. No doubt I have the insides of a 300lb guy, but on the outside you can't see it. This is misleading as people assume I'm thin or don't eat, and also it makes me appear more healthy than I actually am.

Its like a gathering of high metabolism in this place. I think most of you are the minority. Its just like with learning new things. Some people it just comes naturally with others they really have to work at it.

a person can certainly be "buff" at 16 years old...however its obviously not tc's case, I predict that tc is just a 10 years old kid who just got internet in his house and wants to show to the world how awesome he is and telling all the adventures he has as a 195 bench presser who assist to a maniac school

How could a skinny person not gain weight? You want to know how to guarantee something won't happen? By never trying. Even those that do try are doing it wrong. I have skinny friends that try to gain weight, then we'll eat something and they will eat a small salad. You expect to gain weight by eating the same amount of food?

I don't think it's possible for me to gain weight. I eat a ridiculous amount of food but my weight hasn't gone up in years. Hell, sometimes I just keep eating to see how much I can consume.

It's fine with me, I like being thin.

I'm 6'3", don't work out, but over the past five years have fluctuated from 180 to 220 LB varying on the time of year and how badly I am eating. More of a curse than a blessing IMO.

Yeah but not through fat. I used to be skinny before I got buff.

Skinny people can actually gain weight. I've been around 17.5 BMI (5'11", 125lb) for like 4 years. When I visited Japan for 4 weeks, I always had a 5 plate breakfast and would eat out. I don't believe there was a day when I didn't eat out. By the time I returned to America, I gained about 7-10lb bringing my total BMI to around 18.7. But in the few days after returning I lost about most of that weight, so it's hard to 'maintain' the weight.

Yeah, I don't know where all that mass is going. Hell, the next two lightest guys in my class are 121 pounds, and one's shorter (with the same build) while another's thinner (with the same height). Granted, I don't want to become fat (I like my lean look) but I don't know why my body doesn't seem to want to use ANY of this food to grow.

Ya seriously I have always eaten whatever I wanted and I have not gained that much wait. Right now I'm 6' ,165lbs. I had always been a skinny guy through high-school and middle-school. For the past year or so I've actually started weightlifting seriously and have gained muscle mass, rarely any fat; and I still eat alot. Well I say if your trying to get less skinny but dont want to just get fat, your gonna have to start working-out, keep eating what your eating, dont eat less, maybe eat a little more. Slowly you will start gaining weight (and in a good way). The chicks will dig you...trust me.

Eh, it catches up to you eventually. I'm skinnyish, although I know with the beer drinking and whatnot, it's only a matter of time.
