[QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"]Two different types of music, but since Slayer has gone downhill and i will openly bash them in front of all their fanboys, Death. On the other hand nobody ever mentions Chuck Schuldiner turning into a Christian sympathizer later in his life, but still Death. dismal_soul
Tom Araya identifies himself as christian so I dont understand what you are getting at. As for the bands they are too great to choose one over the other. Slayer is great for extreme speed and brutal thrash, while Death has greater creativity, playing skill, and more thoughtful lyrics.
Seriously? Tom Araya a Christian  They haven't been "brutal" for some time now.Chuck is lame, so I'll vote Slayer. But Slayer's members are christian so it's a tie. ( I don't know )
I was kind of hoping for a larger variety of people to actually have experienced both Slayer and Death to even come close to understanding what I'm getting at. Sadly, alas the majority of these forums are still kids and they do not know. Curse you GameSpot!MissRiotmaker
Maybe we should go over to the Slipknot union and evangelize.

Personal opinion, yes i know. However can you tell us why you think Chuck Schuldiner is lame?Chuck is lame, so I'll vote Slayer. But Slayer's members are christian so it's a tie. ( I don't know )

There should be a choice for other, not everyone likes those bands. I prefer Iron Butterfly and Opeth:DFilm-Guy
Then don't enter the thread?

This topic is strictly for fans of both Slayer and Death and for people who have a fair amount of udnerstanding of their background, their influences, their styles.
[QUOTE="D9-THC"]I disagree. Slayer is not the most important thrash metal band, and it never will be.Come on...Slayer? Realllly?
As much as I don't "get" 2pac I still understand his importance to the genre. Slayer is like 10,000 2pacs to metal/hard rock.
And every genre of music is good and contains some talent...well everything except emo.

Megadeth FTW!
Yeah, the stuff after Seasons wasn't all that great, but still they made some great stuff back in the day.

Fair enough, its just that I usually put an other choie in my polls.

I want strict, precise results here. It's either one or the other or neither because of their equality. This isn't the thread for people who never heard of Death or for the people who don't like one, the other or both.[QUOTE="dismal_soul"]Maybe we should go over to the Slipknot union and evangelize.[QUOTE="MissRiotmaker"]I was kind of hoping for a larger variety of people to actually have experienced both Slayer and Death to even come close to understanding what I'm getting at. I bet you could get a few into Slayer or Death.

I agree that anyone who listens to pretty much any variety or genre of metal should have a chance to get into Slayer or Death but right now I'm interested in the people that are already fans of both and I want to know the thoughts between the two.Ok then. I have Sound of Perseverance and Human and will probably get all the albums between them but what is your opinion on Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy? I heard a little and it was alright, wondering if they are worth buying as well.
That video just makes me realize even more how much of a great guy Chuck was. He will be missed by many. It just doesn't hold any credibility towards him being lame, sorry.MissRiotmaker
I can't get through the video without laughing.
Besides... making a simple Slayer vs. Death for anyone to participate in would end up with Slayer as victorious. Why? More mainstream, larger fan-base with more of a general audience. Death is more like a delicate fine wine that takes years of acquired taste to fully enjoy.MissRiotmaker
I never really got into death metal somehow, the growling vocals always turned me off. I havent heard much slayer though, do they do that death metal growl?
It's true what they say. The early years are the golden years. I recommend them all but if you want something that will really delight your earbuds, I'd look into Symbolic next. Mainly paying attention to Crystal Mountain and Perennial Quest and maybe having a look at Symbolic (song) and Empty Words. Also Individual Thought Patterns is a very good choice as well.Ok then. Slayer is into the thrash genre, mainly fast guitar solos, double base drumming, shouting vocals (think In Flames meets Arch Enemy) and the likes unlike Death's low guitar riffs, steady drumming and death growls.Thrash > Death Metal
I really cant stand those anothing ****** singers with the growling voice. Ruins the musics. Thats IMO I know many people like Death Metal. Good for those people.
Slayer is obviously better.
Angel of Death > Every other Death Metal song combined

I dont mind screaming as long as its not to excessive and actually adds to the song.

it made me laugh as well and that makes him lame? The point of this thread isn't to see which genre is better, it's to see overall who the better band is. Who has the best style, influence on their genre, their background, their music, their artists, their technicality, rhythm etcetera.Thrash > Death Metal

I used to hate death metal but after a while I warmed up to it, through gothic bands that had both clean and growls. Necrophagist and the Cannibal Corpse stuff with George Fisher where the first death metal bands I liked. Oddly I never bought a Necrophagist album though.
With out a doubt Slayer.
Don't get me wrong, I love Symbolic, The Sound Of Perseverance and the Leprocy albums but Slayer just have more substance!
I think since Death formed they have had something like 20 on and off members!!!
It's so true. But they held together and continued to make amazing music. With out a doubt Slayer.

God, who cares if there Christians or not? honestly?sprint_car_fan2
I guess the closest comparison I could make is an extremely white guy rapping about livin in the hood and being a gangster.

No, this is BS, I could give a rats ass if Tom Araya is a Christian, I just don't care, It's the same way with Satanic bands like: Gorgoroth, and Mayhem, and so on, I could give a rats ass if they are Satanists. You people take this **** about religion, and musicians that sing about satanism too damn far. I am religious to a certain point, but I don't let it run my life, and doesnt god want us to be happy? Well if were happy listening to Slayer, or Death, or some metal band, and were not doing anything to hurt areselves, or anyone else. or any sins, then were fine. If Tom Araya is a Christian, so be it.
Same thing goes with King Diamond, rumor has it he's a satanist, well if he is, so what? is he pushing his beliefs on you? Personally I don't think he is a satanist, and I think he uses it for shock value. Were discussing who is a better band. Not who things this band is not as good, just because there musicians were Christians.
And if you think im a satanist because I listen to Satanic bands, then your wrong, because I get past the whole religion thing, I listen to these bands because there music is very interesting.
