Smart people(brilliant in academics, huge SAT and near perfect GPA) cannot be of any use in the following events:

1) Getting mugged/attacked on the street. Will probably puss out and run. Or cry. (no street smarts)

2) Forced in a situation where some amount of bravery is required. For example, saving someones life.

3) Very Socially awkward MOST of the time. If they are really that smart, dealing with people should be childs play.

Conclusion: Smartpeople mayhave the ability to obtain knowledge from books and the internet with ease, but cannot function if thrown out of their confort zone.

What say?

Im sorry, but you are stereo typing. Youve been watching to much TV. Alos, My brother has a near perfect GPA and can bench 115KGs. I would't want to try mug him.

I always believed that pure intelligence isn't how much you know, but rather the way you look at things, and you amount of wisdom you carry.

So really, no one is dumb, as everyone seems to specialize in their own particular topics and events.

Smart people make the attempt to avoid such situations where they'll need to use physical force to help someone.

I totally agree with you, I find intelligent people very socially awkward and that they have a significant inability to interact with other people.

Well that's a pretty big assumption, just because they can obtain information easily doesn't mean they don't have social skills etc. and about the saving life part, I'm guessing a smart person would be better in that situation than the "street smart" person.

Yeah i see what you mean, there are complete jockeys out there with good scores and are incredibly unbalanced people. The greatest people have never been overly anything but imaginative.

Okay. Stupid people are not stupid. Fat people are not Fat. Skinny people are not skinny. Gamers are not Gamers . Off topic is not a off topic.

Please, stop being jealous. Any smart person can learn to gain those attributes you listed above. Just accept there are smart people out there, people that you'll be working for one day.

What your describing are nerds, which are socially awkward people. Not necessarily smart. School is based on memorization, not intellectuality. There are smart and stupid people who get good marks and bad marks.

No, but in most cases they remain little *****es. And become doctors and lawyers. Ari Gold's are few in the world.

See, that's the beauty of being smart: when you get a job, you earn enough money that you can live somewhere where you don't have to deal with getting mugged on the street. I don't think that "I fended off a mugger" is exactly something to write home about.

Wow. Just wow. I'm glad there are intelligent people like Barack Obama who stick around and try to make their bad neighborhoods a better place to live. Sooo the point of being smart is to get away from those dumb people who want to pilfer your 20 bucks?

What you described is over-achievers not smart people. Also high school is based off memorization not intelligence.

Rename the thread over-achievers are not smart and you'd be right.

In high school, I had a pretty good GPA and good ACT/SAT scores, but, at the same time, I am a black belt in Tae Kwon Do who has confronted gang members who were messing with my friends back in those days, settled disputes between minor gangs (thus cutting down significantly on violence in neighborhoods across the highway from where I lived), and stood up to a guy who was breaking into my house once. I'm curious-have you ever been shot at? Had the barrel of a .45 pressed against your forehead? Still been able to think clearly and talk convincingly when that was the case? No? Methinks you shouldn't stereotype. I am socially awkward though, so you got one thing right.

You could say that anybody "out of their comfort zone" will perform badly, anybody. At the end of the day intelligence (being defined here I think as ability to learn things) will make you richer than a comparatively stupid person.

And now Barack Obama is living in the White House with an entire security detail surrounding him day and night. :P

If I made a lot of money, I really don't see why I'd want to live in a city like Baltimore or Detroit with murder rates that rival third-world African countries. Maybe if I grew up there I'd feel differently, but I'm definitely not going to move there if I have other options.

And, apparently, a werewolf-like thing too. Wonderful combination.

People in OT generalize too much. How does only one of my "properties" give a clear picture of my entire personality? Why must I be labeled or categorized? WHY?

Personally, I think that smart people appear socially awkward just because they're smart enough not to waste their time with most people. :P

What say?

Somehow, I think those stories look better on paper than they were in real life. :|

Eccentricity need not breed wimpiness ;)

Don't forget-that statue is on an 8 foot high pedestal thingy that I had to climb myself (and I'm not exactly tall) :)
