Now that I'm back from my suspension :D I can spread havoc and mayhem again! :D I'm just joking.

Anyway, I've been driven crazy these past few weeks, and am on the brink of starting smoking. I honestly find it hard to respect people who treat smokers like some foreign being, they're just like the rest of the bunch, they have their reasons.

Anyways, do you people smoke?

Don't start. You will just be causing more problems for yourself down the road. Coming from a former smoker.

On and off since I was 14. We call it "party smoker" over here, not sure if that term translates well into english, but either way it's self-explanatory.

I have a group of friends I see about once a month that I'll have a cigarette or two with. I don't smoke by myself though.

What I really can't stand is when you're smoking and one of your non-smoker friends goes "oh man you shouldn't do that man, its bad for your health man". I obviously know that. Anyways I'm fine with smoking, I'm able to control it, I don't have an addiction. I really only smoke when I'm hanging out with friends, I don't really do it all that much by myself.

No I dont.

If I ever smoked, I'd much rather smoke with a pipe or a cigar, because they at least can have a good taste.

But anyway I dont view smokers as inferior or whatever you mean; I just get irked by those smokers who became smokers to look cool or because everyone around them was doing it.

Never smoked cigarettes but I have dabbled into weed before.

I say no to both but hey man it's your life, do whatever the hell you desire.

There isn't much more they can do, I mean, they have "This will probably kill you" printed right on the side of the box. I'm sure the majority of smokers know it is bad for them, but they have their reasons for doing it anyway.

This, every word. Also I don't have a problem with smokers, it's their life, they can do what they want with it, but what really irks me is when they light up in a vehicle or in an area with poor ventalation where I have to breathe the crap, I hate it:x

Seriously, inconsiderate smokers are the worst. At my university there is a courtyard that hundreds of students go through at once to get to classes and so many people smoke there. So annoying...

Is it possible that those messages only encourage people to do it... in a strange reverse psychology kind of way? I think the best way to prevent smoking is to limit areas in which smoking is permitted. So basically, never in a public place.

Right, some people's reasons are simply rebellion or an attempt to look hardcore, especially among the younger generation I imagine. I remember when I turned 18, smoking had been taboo my entire life because I wasn't legally allowed to. First thing I did was go buy a pack of cigs and walk into an adult book/toy store.

With that said, a lot of people simply enjoy it, consequences be damned. I know people that enjoy the taste, or people that like it because it helps them relax. There are many reasons people smoke.

there are 2 types of people, those who accept differences among people and learn to live in a society. And megalomaniacs that think the people around them exist to serve them and want society to bend to their will.

how about if you dont like smokers, dont go near them.

I would have to avoid any cafeteria, or similar crowded places, including my university's cantine.

Luckily though, my country has realised that its the smokers who should respect others and now either those places have separate areas for smokers and non-smokers or they do not allow smoking at all.

I smoke on occassion. I'm not addicted to them though, it's just sometimes I do it when other people are doing it. Not because I want to look cool, just because it makes it less uncomfortable. One of my friends often goes outside while the rest of us are hanging out to smoke. I go with him and smoke a couple with him so he won't feel like he's by himself. Happens fairly often actually, I do the same thing with my girlfriend.

You dont have to avoid anything, you just deal with the smell of smoke...

sorry if the world isnt ideal for you, but the world isnt ideal for anyone... we all deal with things we dont necessarily like on a daily basis... if you want to live in a society it comes with the territory. So deal with it or go buy a remote cabin in the woods.

to be fair, it's not just the "smell" of smoke. Secondhand smoke is detrimental to your health.
