no, thankfully, people will still want to play games and movies on a big screen with lots of power, and zero mobility.

i got my first laptop a week ago though, and am selling my desktop, so i hope it's not a sign of the times.

Also they are upgradable which makes them a more serious competador in the market.

Dosn't really matter as few people actually upgrade their PCs, from what i've seen the majority of people just reaplces the whole vunit. Sometimes people will get a RAM upgrade but you can do that in laptops too.

Personally I think that as long as people are making games that are supported by the OS's on desktops they won't die out completely, but if you want a desktop you will end up having to buy it yourself.

This is pretty much what it is now. As long as there are games that come out for the computer, there will always be desktops. Plus, offices will still have a need for desktop computers. It is very rare for you to find an office that is completely supported through laptops.

I know, that I'll stick to desktops for a very long time, I hate typing on laptops, and their non-mousness, small screen, low power, high cost (relative to power of a desktop) and their heat production. Maybe for home casual use they can be replaced, but most businesses I'd imagine, would rather have a cheap long lasting computer that's hard to steal, over a laptop. Also any business that needs moderate computing power...

I got my first laptop last summer and I really love it. However, when I use my gaming desktop, its way more easy and comfortable.

Ummm...no. Until laptops become more durable and easier to upgrade/customize, desktops will continue to have a pulse....

Also, until high-end laptops don't cost an arm and a leg to repair or buy, desktops will definitely continue to exist...

Ive always been a laptop person. There;s just somethin about laying in bed, or sitting on a comfy recliner that a desktop cant match.

I laugh at people who don't use desktops. Desktops will always be the most customizable and fastest pc. I wouldn't trade my current desktop for anything

There is definitely something, which is back pain and feeling uncomfortable.

And the overheating of certain body parts if you place the laptop on them ;)

Ten years and they'll be gone. Stuff will be projected or built into walls. No seriously, we can already do it. Skip the first six minutes if you want to see it.

Hopefully they never disappear. The last thing I want is to pay through the nose for some crappy cloud computing solution or a non-upgradable laptop.

I strongly doubt it, since you can do pretty much 0 work on a laptop, Unless they got about as powerful as a desktop, without burning out within a few years due to poor cooling, then they might, but as of now? a laptop that rivals my desktop, would cost about3 times the price of my desktop, and the heat exchange of the thing would ensure it to melt down within a year.

I do think laptopsare as popular as desktops, but unless you do light work (text, school and such), then no, not even close.

So a supplement to a desktop, for easy tasks, sure, for people who has a job that requires audio or video, modeling, or advanced chemestrythen no, not really, not even close. Heck the desktop I have, is barely cutting it for the programs I run for fun, and games are a big no, since a laptop would be burning within an hour.

People overestimated the laptops for the last 4 years, the problem that they seem to not overcome is: power usage, and heat. So you either have to have a laptop plugged in at all times (in which case the point of a laptop is lost) andit is so small, that the airflow and cooling is really limited, and if anything breaks, they are rarely muduler like a desktop is, and cost a whole heck of alot more to repair.

You can get a goodlaptop ofcourse, one that sort of works decently, but the cost for itis so much more then a desktop with hardwarethat would chew through anything.

I love my desktop the ease of upgrading and putting my own parts in. Laptops are great for some things but I would never want to have just a laptop.

I have a desktop. Why? because if I keep it on my desk why do I need a laptop? Also because it's modular. As mentioned it's very easy to modify it with new hardware. Laptop modification are limited and expensive by comparison.

Laptops are good for and meant for documention, editing and running other apps that may be needed for business purposes while on the go. It's mobile for mobile operators.

If I had an excess of money to just waste I would get laptops because they are convienent, but since I'm a gamer and have to keep hardware transitions econimical I can't afford to be wasting money on equipment I don't need totake with me nor move around.

I dont ever see laptops replacing desktops. No matter how fast laptops get the desktop will always have a bigger faster version.
