I saw Captain America yesterday and I loved it. Had a great theme and style and characters to it and it was really enjoyable. Anyways I've heard some negative comments about it because the name is offensive to people. I heard thats its not right and is incorrect and that the name should have not been used and should be banned for being too offensive to people. I have heard many of these comments from non-americans or those super liberals that seem to hate on anything patriotic. It doesn't make sense to me. How is Captain Americas name offensive? He's a classic character who's been around for 70 years.

No not really, like you said he's been around for 70 years. I don't understand why there's complaints NOW instead a longtime ago.

Well like I said. I have been hearing most of these negative comments from non-americans or the annoying overly liberal people. (i'm not saying that about all liberal people)

I refuse to see those kind of movies.if the source material is immature , then I can only imagine what the "movie" will be like. But as for Being offended , can see how some can be so stupid.

Only when certain iterations of him aren't American enough to deserve that title.

Currently, Captain America is pretty American, though.

People who say "Captain America" is offensive must not realise that he was created during World War 2 when patriotism was very high for the country and most able-bodied men were going into the military to fight in the war. But for the most part, you can't help people getting offended for whatever reason. I can understand the movie's motto offending anybody who doesn't get a warm and fuzzy over the US but the character himself shouldn't offend. There are just some people outside of the US who don't agree with what the US stands for and inside of the US it seems like it's "in style" to hate on the US among some younger people.

I heard that too. If I recall correctly, it wasRussia, Ukraine and South Korea that changed the title.

Anyway, I don't see a reason to be offended by the name.

Captain America is his name. The character from the comic was Captain America. It shouldn't be changed, nor should it even be considered offensive. People who find it offensive are simply stupid and think they are better than everyone else.

He was used as a WWII propaganda icon both in the comic/movie and in real-life. It's part of the story.

To people who don't know the character it sounds like propaganda, like Captain America represents the American nation and therefore America as a nation is a hero and should be praised. Be honest, if a super hero movie was titled "Lieutenant North Korea" people would be going ape ****.

No, that was the characters name when he was made. What were they supposed to do, Change his name to "Captain A-continent-where-America-is-usually-a-reference-to-The-United States of America-who's-capital-is-Washington DC" just because it might offend someone?

i dont understand how it is offensive. From my little knowledge of captain america, he was a science experiment super soldier meant to represent america's interest in world war 2 by kicking nazi ass right? Would calling him the "american captain" be less offensive? that's his name :O

No, I don't see ut as offensive. And I think that other's shouldn't either, I mena if you don't like Captain America get over it or create your own hero for your own country. I mean Britian has "Captain Britian" or something like that. He's a hero, a comic book character. Not some kind of fad, or slogan or nuclear weapon.

I'm not offended by the name but I find it silly how people from the States refer thier home as America when in fact that whole huge land mass in the western hemisphere is technically "America". I can see how someone may be offended because they don't want to see stars and stripes representing "America".

It'd be like Canada making a superhero called Captain America and dressing him up in red and white. Other people from different countries South of Canada would be upset.

It's really only something for people in North and South America to be offended by.

Other countries have simply stripped the title to "The First Avenger", so clearly it's not just North and South Americas.

The majority of foreign distributors decided to utilise the Captain America name in order to take advantage of the Marvel superhero's global notoriety, but the Russian, Ukrainian and South Korean film industries have chosen to debut the film under the First Avenger title

THey have different problems with the name then people do from the western hemisphere. I wouldn't have been surprised if the name was also changed in South America though.

United States of America, Key Word America, No other country has America in it (that I know of). Only Continents.

People constently refer to the USA, as either the US, or America because it's shorter.

Why would other people refer to their country as America if they didn't live in a country that had America in it, and if you were specifically talking about continents, you would say North or South, because if you just said America, it would mean both, but no one talks like that. It's not weird. Even you called us the States, that's slang, America is slang.

North America is comprised of Canada, U.S and Mexico and a few other countries. Captain America from my understanding has mostly represented one country out of all and that's the United states.

It'd be more fitting to call him "Captain U.S" but I guess since it's become really common to just label people from the United states as "Americans" people from Canada as "Canadians" and people from Mexico as"Mexicans" Him being called Captian America isn't a big deal. Maybe offensive to some people I guess due to the fact he is only wearing the U.S colors while calling himself "Captain America"

Are more like American Idiot's that cries over such stupid things, like getting offended by a freaking movie. No wonder people are stupid nowadays.

*Waits to get another message by a Mod*

IMO: I've never seen the movie, but it looks really good. I use to watch the Cartoon shows of Captain American and they were cool. I don't watch them much anymore, though.

When someone from outside the USA thinks of "America" they think of North America(and possibly South America as well). People from other places in North America dont appreciate being clumped together with your pseudo-democratic ways. Not to mention a list of other problems the USA has under it's table. Your country is not America. America refers to North and South America. People from outside the USA, should not suffer because people from the USA wants to claim it's all theirs. I live in North America. I do NOT live in the USA. I dont NOT want to be an American, or suffer from their faults. Nor do i want my country's name tarnished by Americans and their slang.

So is he supposed to wear all the flags of North America and South America to properly be called Cpt. America?

It's the United States of America, which yes the states of North America, but it wouldn't be cool or catchy to be called Captain US, or Captain States, or whatever else people call the US. People have been calling it America since probably before 1776, and definitely after, why change it now.
