[QUOTE="gotdangit"]

[QUOTE="Nibroc420"] at one point, n***** was slang for an African American. Just because it's slang, doesn't mean it's ok to be offensive.Nibroc420

So you're saying America is offensive? Sorry dude, or wait, that may be offensive to some people, cause it's slang. Just cause it's slang doesn't mean it IS offensive. How is America offensive at all.

When someone from outside the USA thinks of "America" they think of North America(and possibly South America as well). People from other places in North America dont appreciate being clumped together with your pseudo-democratic ways. Not to mention a list of other problems the USA has under it's table. Your country is not America. America refers to North and South America. People from outside the USA, should not suffer because people from the USA wants to claim it's all theirs. I live in North America. I do NOT live in the USA. I dont NOT want to be an American, or suffer from their faults. Nor do i want my country's name tarnished by Americans and their slang.

Yea... I don't think that's true, I think when people say America, they think of the US, and when people say North America, they think of that, and same with South America. Are you just ignorant or what, people are suffering from being bunched in with America? Who really cares?

I don't know where you're from, but i've talked to people outside the States, and at least them, they refer to is as America also, they don't care. When people say America, it's usually implied meaning, the USA, do you know what that stands for. Also, don't try to pretend like our country is the only one with problems, and don't try to pretend like you know the actual problems going on here, because I'm sure you've never been here, and the only things you know are based from biased media sources.

And something else, you say you're from North America, but you don't want to be American. So have you accepted that we are American? Because if we're not American, then what else can we be called.... United States of America... ans? ins? We must be AMERICA is we are called AMERICANS, there is no other name for us!

[QUOTE="LightR"]

...

It's really only something for people in North and South America to be offended by.

Nibroc420

Other countries have simply stripped the title to "The First Avenger", so clearly it's not just North and South Americas.

The majority of foreign distributors decided to utilise the Captain America name in order to take advantage of the Marvel superhero's global notoriety, but the Russian, Ukrainian and South Korean film industries have chosen to debut the film under the First Avenger title

But did they change the name in those countries because they found the title "offensive", or simply because they thought it would sell better in those countries without the "Captain America" in the name?

What does this have to do with anything I said?

besides, the word that you're using, is offensive, the word we use, isn't... It's not discrimination, you even used it yourself. I'm glad to be called American, it is accepted, wtf are you talking about?

I'm not offended by the name but I find it silly how people from the States refer thier home as America when in fact that whole huge land mass in the western hemisphere is technically "America". I can see how someone may be offended because they don't want to see stars and stripes representing "America".LightR
Because unlike the other countries the correct name for the country is United States of AMERICA....hence the people are Americans. It's part of the country name and not just the continent.;)

I'm not an american and I'm not offended by it at all and don't anybody who is offended by it. But I do think its a silly name and that his outfit is pretty silly. He's basically an awesome comic-book character that looks very silly although Marvel Studios did a great job bringing him to life.

Even you called us the States, that's slang, America is slang.

gotdangit

It's as much slang as calling someone from Canada....Canadian. Or from England....English etc.:|

Sounds to me like you are inventing people who are offended by it. I've never heard anyone complain about it.majoras_wrath

Yeah, I could be wrong, but this does seem manufactured.

North America isn't the only America in the world, there's also Central America and South America.

I think this is why.

MonsterVision

They are now finding it offensive? What about the years of it being just a comic character?

I watched the movie yesterday as well. It was good, but nothing special. The name certainly didn't offend me, however.

It's sad to think there are people in America who hate anything patriotic or associated with America at all.
