I love Blind. I would have bought a blind board if they still sold them in my town. They used to, but there wasn't enough demand for them. The one I have now is really good though, but Blind was just so awesome.

I don't like them. I'd rather just get a good skateboard and use that to ride that getting a longboard. They are a little too big and cumbersome for me, of course, I prefer a smaller board. The one I have now is 7.5" by 31.125" which is considered a tad smaller than standard. Standard is 7.75" by 32". Those tiny measurements make a huge difference when you're riding it. I like to go fast, and my trucks tend to be a little looser than most peoples.

Are they good for cruising? If I learn how to longboard will I instantly be good at skateboarding.

They are completely different breeds. They are not more cumbersome, you just have to get used to them (there are also tons of different styles of them..) You can go much faster on a longboard than a skateboard.

No, longboards are for cruising.. But I don't like that image...there are also tons of tricks to do on a longboard. It doesn't stick with people that dislike falling at 25mph+...most kids quit. Also, it will help, but it is pretty different from skateboards. You will most likely suck at longboarding when you start, and suck at skateboarding as well.. But that's the way it is. Ride a friend's board to see how you like it.

I don't, but like nearly every kid I had one, I used to kneel on it and push myself along with my hands.

I sucked.

I wish I could. Skating looks really fun, and I have alot of skater friends that could teach me, but I've never tried it. I don't have the money to blow on a board if I end up being terrible at it.

I was skateboarding before it was cool. Then I ended up dropping it for inline right as it became popular (not because it was popular. I was just a lot better at inline) but a few years ago I messed up my back pretty badly so I had to stop.

I tried many, many years ago. Thing is my friends had all started long before I did, so they were pretty good where as I sucked. So I got really discouraged and never tried since.

I did, but as I got older I began to fade away from skateboarding and fade into longboarding. I love them both, but I like to cruise and carve more nowadays.

I used to quite a bit; then I took a nasty tumble and got a compression fracture of the scaffoid bone in my hand, at the base of my thumb. I was in a cast for about 4 months (though such fractures can take up to a year to heal). The pain in the ass of driving a stick shift with a cast on my right hand convinced me that my skating days were over.
