Well, in my opinion. I never really got metal. Sometimes its too cheesy, sometimes its too shouty.....I could never get into it. I'm more of a pop/rock sorta person

It sounds like all they do is scream. I like guns n roses but im not sure if they are considered heavy metal. But i think im gonna start a band since its so easy to scream into a mic and get lots of money.kurama2002

It is funny becuse they are listed a metal by some places and heavy rock by others. But Led Zeppelin is a great band I have my Itunes loaded with them and there are daysI will start at the begining of thier section and listen all day.

Black Sabbath and Metallica are a couple others I have a good colection of. Then of course there is Pink Floyd, but thats off topic.

Either you listened to some crappy band that isn't even real Metal (probably a crappy Metalcore band like A7X) for half a minute, or you're just going off on a limb on a genre that you hardly know anything about. I see people saying this all the time without listing a specific band or just giving the old generalized argument of them doing nothing but screaming the whole time.

My advice would be either to take the time to listen to some good bands and actually learn to appreciate it for what it is, or just stop posting about a genre that you know little to nothing about. It amazes me how people try to act like they have an opinion on something they know so little about.

As people have already stated its a little general on what type of music you are actually referring to....but..I do see another few things wrong here. Like the music or hate it, but without well trained vocal chordes and control your voice will be blown in no time (see the original singer from Killswitch)...and again I dont know which bands you are talking about exacty, but its rare for extreme metal bands to make it 'big/rich'.

I'll admit though, there is some stuff that I'm like 0_o when i listen to it. but there are those gems out there.

It is a "difficult" genre to get into, but most of the bands that play the music are really talented.

You just have to be open to different stuff. But most people aren't. I listen to stuff like this and this, and I also love stuff like this and this

its just another way of singing. Sure you may not catch the lyrics the first time. But I assure you, if you read the lyrics along with the song, you'll understand it really quick.

Oh contrare my friend. Many lyrics for metal are very poetic. Bands such as Opeth, Ayreon, and Novembers Doom (just to name a few) have written Concept Albums. Each song is a part of a poem that tells a story. One of my favorite examples of this is Opeth's My Arms Your Hearse album. The album tells a story about a man who has died and is now a ghost. He observes his wife in mourning and is astounded by how much she cared for him. Each song's last lyrics is the name of the next song. Also, the entire album goes through 4 distinctive stages, that mimic the four seasons, and the begining and end loop back for a new "year"

so if that's not depth in music, then what is?
