I just got a call from a local hardware store that I applied to a few weeks ago, and they said that they want to see me tomorrow for a job interview. They are going to be paying me $7.00 a hour (I know, pretty bad, but for a 16 year old with no prior job experience, oh well) and I will be working my limit (18 hours for kids under 18 in NH) three days a week. Not to bad I guess.

So, does anyone remember any experiences that they had during their first job interview? Any tips/suggestions/advice for me?

My first interview ever was at Circuit City for the technology deparment. The only big question was "what are 3 of your strengths and 3 of your weaknesses?" question.

The last one I went on was for Pacsun and it was a group interview. I bombed that one. Being in a group with other candidates didn't help me think at all.

If I was making $7 when I was 16, I would be happy. I was making less than minimum wage and working 12 hour days 6 days a week (mind you, this was when minimum wage was 5 something).

Hell, just 4 months ago, I was making $8 working out of a crappy trophy shop and I'm going to turn 21 at the end of the month. I have bills to pay and I had to make it work.

Yeah, after taxes I'll be making 225 every pay check, and about 480 every month. I can live with that considering that I don't have anything to pay for right now and all the money is basically going to a car.

The thing is I also applied to two different Wal-Mart's and they would be willing to pay me $9.50 a hour, but neither of them have gotten back to me in three weeks...that is the only thing that I have haning over my head right now.

I just started my first job today :) I've applied in 50+ places and the only reason I got this one was because my mate's cousin ran it - processing data from exam papers for 5.55 (pounds) an hour which is great pay. Only thing is the job only lasts 4 weeks maximum so I've got more job hunting to do in the mean time...

Mind just because you got the interview dosent mean you have the job, but good luck, some tips

Smile alot, be positive and try and let them know you are full of energy

ask some questions but try not to make them about money, this shows your interested

wear sensible clothes its a hard ware shop so you wont need a suit or anything, but dont go in with a hoodie and cap or anything.

and just try to flesh your awnsers out when you get asked questions, dont just say yes or no

Yeh it's been hard work :( I don't really know where else to look now... I've spotted something in town though on my lunch break today in a printing shop. Photoshop skills needed which is great cause I'm a dab hand at Photoshop :P Might bring my portfolio round sometime to show them :)

I assume you'll be getting a paycheck bi-monthly, but don't expect to be getting $480 from it every month... You'll be getting a lot more taken out than that.

Feeling down after 10 places rejected you? Listen, when it doesn't work out you shouldn't touch yourself, it might be harmful.

I started my first job a year ago. Still working there. i started at 7.50, then the new year started and minimum wage was raised to 8. So basically I make 8.30 now. It sucks because you can't get promoted to any other jobs unless your 18, and I don't turn 18 til the end of August. But I am guarenteed a promotion pretty much.

I'll be getting my paycheck every two weeks, and after all the taxes have been worked out, I'll have around 460...in NH, seeing as how people are generally paid more (high income area), the fact that I am a minor, and the fact that taxes are generally less here, I won't be getting that much more taken out.

Good luck on the interview.

My first job didn't have an interview, it was just training for a few days. I was a soccer referee locally, something i kept for 3 years.

An interview doesn't mean you have a job.

I had an interview this morning at Subway (I'm fairly certain that 99% of Subway workers are female...don't know if that's good or bad) and I think I'll get hired, I'll find out in a couple days.

*edit* sorry if that first part sounded rude, good luck with your interview

No, I am pretty much 100% confident in myself that if they interview they will hire me. I mean, who could resist?

Urgent advice: save at least half your earnings so that if you leave or get fired after however long it is you won't be a chump who worked a crappy, patronising job for months and is left with nothing to show for it.

yea ir, does, I've applied at like 12 places, got an interview at 1 (circuit city) which went very well and they said they'd call me again for an interview with the store director, but never did  I called them back and asked wtf was going on and they said the store director had been "busy" lately so i left my name and numbr and have yet to get a call back. This was about a week ago.

I just got my first job at a Movie Theatre, I just go around and sweep up popcorn with my broom @ 8 dollars and hour.trickmyster13
