WOW, man was this movie amazing. this probably one of the few movies to make me shed some tears. throughout the whole movie im just thinking, "omg omg omg whats ganna happen next?" the part with the mother giving birth in the middle of a friggen war zone was one of the most powerfull things ive seen in a movie. also the part when she and clive owen walk out of the building with everyone just standing still looking at the baby with awe was very emotional. i actually felt as if i was in this movie experiencing this.

so yeah this movie is amazing, discuss?

Yes that movie was really good. I also love the part where they walk out of the building and everyone just stares at the baby. Truly emotional. But I wanted some kind of closure as to what happened to the girl and the baby. Did they actually get rescued? What happened to the child? So many questions!

i didn't like it....story didnt make sense AT ALL...it didn't explain why people couldn't have babies....i hated how the ending just left you hanging.....only good part about the movie was the 12 minute war scene...otherwise...it was a big MEH and i dont recommend it. And it looked like they only had a $1 million dollar budget to make the movie with.......

watch the trailer if you want...i thought the trailer was more excting then the movie.

So you need an explanation to everything that happens in a movie to enjoy the story? Why they can't have babies isn't important, just accept it as a fact. This kind of "deep/spiritual" movie can be considered as art. In art, there is a lot of imagination required to enjoy the said piece of art. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children_of_men

Yeah that movie's great. As for the reason women couldn't have babies they gave some possible reasons if you listen to the conversations at the drug dealer's house. I like when they escape from the farm, that was cool, and let's not forget quotes such as "This is all we're gonna talk about, cows and *******?"

I can see where Reaper is coming from. First time I watched it I felt like I was reading a book with some pages ripped out. Throughout most of the movie I was waiting for an explanation as to why humans couldn't produce babies anymore; and only until it dawned on me that it was not going to be revealed did I start to appreciate the movie. I think there were also more things that I didn't understand but I don't remember them.

I agree with the TC though. It was a pretty powerful movie with some great scenes. Best of all, I love the realistic take on it. Like how the youngest kid in the world was such a celebrity. Seems like something our society would do.

The most emotional part of that for me was when they suddenly just went back to fighting each other. That was just so symbolic of real-life human nature - amazing things can bring us together, but in a split second we go back to being divided.

The simple fact that everything needs to be explained to you just goes to show how childish you are when it comes to movies. To not like the movie is one thing, but to bash it simply because you are too narrow-minded to accept a little mystery is really just sad.

ya it true that some movies aren't for everyone, but when people can't accept peoples opinions that is just really sad. Then again you started it...you didnt have to quote me you know  ...next time keep it too yourself

i agree, first time i saw it was in theaters and i also saw Blood Diamond immediately after. both are now huge favorites and though i loved children of men more, the first time, blood diamond is much better imo and i like it a lot more now. I think the part where they walked out of the building and everything was silent was actually more intense than the birth scene tho

I thought the movie was subpar, it's extraordinarily hard to relate to it for me, for instance I don't find anything awe-inspiring about a women having a baby, even if I try to use my imagination and imagine a world of infertile men. (or was it women? I heard the book switched it up, so I can't remember which was which). So without using spoilers that scene in the movie (you know which I'm talking about), did absolutely nothing to me. It seemed so silly.

legend26

Actually, that's not quite right.

(The damn site says I have invalid tags or some BS, so you're just going to have to avoid reading this) SPOILER!!!

The guy was imprisoned for 15 years and his family was killed and he has no idea why. Then he is released and given 5 days to figure out why he was imprisoned, all the while attempting to get revenge. Though his nemesis blackmails him by withholding the reason he did it all.

He DID know he had a daughter, it made it bleedingly obvious at the start and he thought she was killed. In reality, she was kept alive and he was locked away for 15 years so that she would have time to grow up and he would then have intercourse with her without knowing it was his actual daughter. The antagonist did this as revenge for telling everyone that that he slept with his own sister and spread the rumour that she was pregnant, after which she killed herself.

The real kicker was the photo album the protagonist flips through showing his daughter growing up in to the woman he met at the sushi bar...

/SPOILER

Personally, I didn't enjoy Children of Men all that much either. Not to say it was a bad movie, I thought it had a nice sense of realism and cinematogrophy but I felt the central theme to the movie was a bit vague, I found myself wondering what was the actual point. Suddenly everyone is infertile, their are wars and immigration issues spiralling out of control and a woman who became pregnant must be smuggled to the safety of a rebel group... I think I must be missing something?

I loved Children of Men. Its easily one of my favorite movies. Its a shame it didnt get any Oscar's though. They lost all credibility as far as I am concerened after that.

Plot spoilers:

i hated this movie and i only watched it because of this boards high ratings of it. 90 % of the movie was useless dialogue laced w/ political undertones. Talk about boring as hell. There was absolutely no character development nor was there any plot development. Nothing happened besides a woman giving birth and then getting on a boat.

Yeah, I think that may have been my favorite scene in the movie. It was really tough watching the characters played by Julian Moore and Michael Cane get murdered. I definitely teared up.

(or was it women? I heard the book switched it up, so I can't remember which was which). So without using spoilers that scene in the movie (you know which I'm talking about), did absolutely nothing to me. It seemed so silly. legend26

you woudnt be afraid if you were giving birth in the middle of an active war zone?

No, that's not the gripe I had.

**SPOILERS**

the gripe I had was that is was very hard for me to feel what the soldiers or people around the child birth were feeling, which was that this child was beautiful, or the guy saying "They're so small". We see kids, babies and children everyday so that scene is very hard for me to relate to, I would guess that scene appeals to the older generation, people who aspire to have kids and admire seeing couples with them. But as for me, it did absolutely nothing, it was silly to me.

**END SPOILERS**

I really liked it, but the ending was a bit poor in comparison to the rest of the movie.SolidSnake35

Well, that's how life works. There is a lot of dialogue exchanged between thoughtful adults. And in a story like this, how could there not be politics?

Anyway, I liked this movie. It was thoughtful. It's not a shoot em up action movie. It's not meant to be. It's more of an ideological statement, more than anything else.

I do agree with you somewhat...I think the character development was a little rushed. To me, it would have helped to develop the relationships between the main characters a little more. But, I still think the movie was well done.

ya it true that some movies aren't for everyone, but when people can't accept peoples opinions that is just really sad. Then again you started it...you didnt have to quote me you know  ...next time keep it too yourself

Like I said, there's nothing wrong with not liking the movie. Your reasoning, however, is painfully ignorant. Congratulations for being a child about this. Good day. :)

While I disagree with Reapers opinion but he's right when he says that you started it. A man has a right to his own opinion no matter how stupid you think it is. It's not gonna kill you if someone doesn't like you're favorite movie.

I may have started it, but I don't think I can make it any clearer that him not liking the movie is not what bothers me.

k if the movie isnt going to give you half of the main plot....and it just leaves you to decide what happens next....whats the point? the filmmakers might as well not be lazy and fill the audience with a little bit more then saying...."okay....there is no reason why women cant deliver babies...the audience has to figure it out themselves so they can say this movie is awesome and thought-provoking "

So to ask someone to think for themselves qualifies as laziness? To challenge imagination is laziness? If that's your outlook on thought, we may as well be overrun with reality shows and shallow music.

I think you missed a keyword in my post: useless. The majority of the conversations did absolutely nothing to further the story. This is the main reason why there wasn't any development.

Of course there is going to be politics in this movie, but damn, nothing happened. It consisted of an old hippie sitting around complaining. Who the hell wants to listen to that? Nothing profound was brought forth here. Politcal undertones relating the fictional government to real governments does not equal good nor thoughtful.
