Well considering that's where I get my perscription...yeah.
You don't have to show them your receipt of course. How'd they get you into the office though? That would involve some sort of force, which IIRC is considered assault as they are without real proof. You should've walked right out the door.
Just show them the receipt next time.
They aren't going to care what you bought. They just want sales from you after all. :P
Blame all the shoplifters and dishonest people of the world, if they weren't doing bad things stores wouldn't have to protect against them. Oh and just show her your receipt next time, if it's something that's on there that would embarrass you simply turn it around and make them feel uneasy about asking to see it.
You're within your right to not show your receipt UNLESS it states you must show employees the receipt when asked on the back of the receipt (contract law). If it does not say so on the back of the receipt then you do not have to show it, you own the items, you paid for them. Now, whether they had the right to detain you is a bit sketchy. You get into false imprisonment territory there though some states may make exceptions for retail stores (like they can detain you for no more than an hour).cametallThat is what I'm thinking about.......No way would I let myself get dragged into anywhere without fighting back. Next time I go into Fry's Electronics or Best Buy I'm going to totally bypass the receipt check and tell them to **** off if I buy something.

Best Buy the guy at the door tends to be a fat guy who is easily distracted so it should not be that hard. Least the Best Buy's I have gone to this has been the case. I got arrested and taken into police custody falsly for having drugs.
I was walking towards the bus stop (It was also the last bus that night) and as the stop was in sight the bus came round th corner and ran for the stop with my hand out (Where I live thats an indication for the driver that you want to get on) but there was a police car infront of the bus.
What they claimd to have saw was me running from the police car throwing a packet of someting over the bridge onto railway tracks.
Needless to say they brought me back to the station and strip searched me and I didn't have enougth money on me for a taxi home. I was rather pissed off.
They cannot restrain you with physical force. The police could, but they aren't there. After reading that story, now I'm wondering, if after the customer service person had asked OP to go see the manager, what could they do if he said "No," and just walked out? Can store people physically detain someone?

No, they can not unless they are doing a "citizens" arrest (but you better know what they are doing because you can get sued or even charged for holding someone against their will if charges don't hold). You also have 4th ammendment protections. The OP may want to contact a lawyer. The proceedure for detaining someone for shoplifting is fairly strict. If the proceedure wasn't followed, he may be able to get a small payout. After reading that story, now I'm wondering, if after the customer service person had asked OP to go see the manager, what could they do if he said "No," and just walked out? because they know if they're polite about it, you'll most likely just leave, since you can anyways.I thoroughly support you. I hate having my stuff checked and I never steal. They are often rude about it (such as in your story) and it wastes my time.

Like this user, and what most others said, you should of just shown your receipt. To be honest, you made yourself out to be suspicious when you didn't show your receipt.

[QUOTE="Vesica_Prime"]Like this user, and what most others said, you should of just shown your receipt. THIS does seem reasonable. But he also does have a right to privacy. If he doesn't wish for the store clerk to know what kind of prescriptions he's taking, he absolutely has a right to refuse showing them anything. To be honest, you made yourself out to be suspicious when you didn't show your receipt.

Yes, in a police state. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to show a reciept for stuff you just purchased.
Should've made it clear that you paid by showing your receipt, first off.
Second, you should've milked the accusation for all it was worth, Ex. A 50% discount on your next purchase.
I know at Costco they did when I used to shop there. They would take your receipt from you and count the items in your basket to make sure it matched. Fry's does the same thing with the item count and your receipt when you try to leave the store.I don't understand the whole checking the receipt thing myself, esp. at Sams or places like that. It's not like they actually check EVERY SINGLE ITEM you purchased.
feryl06
Could of just ignored her, act like you didn't hear her and left. I often do this if I don't want to wait in their 10 minute line to leave after I legally purchased my items. If I did not steal anything and I'm leaving, what are they going to do?
