Really... really stupid. Hated this movie. Just so much sensless blood and gore, and no semblance of any real movie. I know people are going to start mentioning the Saw movies, but at least those movies had points to them. This.. this was just dumb. What did you all think?

Yeah Hostel I heard was an excuse to have gore and sex in it, and the only gimmick was that it was based (and heavily skewed) on a real story so they could get people to watch. People expected this to be "the next saw" and it's a total flop, I'm glad I didn't waste my time with these things.

I agree, Saw actually has...y'know...a plot. It doesn't try to go on violence and shock factor alone.

Why would you even consider seeing the second, assuming you suffered through the first?

Yah i used to be into the Hostel type movies, i grew out of it, there tends to be a crappy storyline, really predictable, and horrible characters. although i do still like the Saw series, since i have followed it from the start. i didn't even watch hostel 2, the first one was enough for me.

Hostel II was probably the worse movie I have ever seen in my life..
I loved the Saw movies though.. The endings for each was such a big twist and they had plots.. They were just brilliant..

Hostel FTLTakashi_7

They are planning on making a 5 and 6, and if those are successful enough, then they are gonna make a 7.

THat's just too much though, they may as well rename it "Rocky".

I like the Saw series. Saw 1 is my all-time fav thriller and I have seen classics like Seven.

I never bothered with the Hostel movies and I don't plan to either. I am not into tortureporn, no matter how much I love the original Saw movie.

the FIRST saw was good. all others were awful. hostel, hills have eyes, etc are a new line of movies that claim to be "horror" movies but are nothing more that just gore fests with awful storylines and actors. Gore and special effects, in some movies, does NOT equal horror. Atmosphere creates the best horror.

QFT much?

Forgot one little bit though - some directors think "Horror movies" = Crap jumps out at you when you least expect it. Once that trend became popular, Horror movies just, started losing it.

agreed, the first saw had a great plot, great atmosphere for fear, the constant wondering of "why is this happening", psychologically thrilling, and just the right amount of gore to remain tasteful.

All these new movies are pointless.

omg I loved Hostel 2. It was almost like half the movie was from the bad guy's point of view, like when theyre bidding on the victims!

As for the "senseless gore" well, what the heck were you expecting? Thats the entire theme of the movie, East European torture houses!

Hostel 2 is one of the best horror movie sequals ever.

I disagree. The new movies have surprised me each and every time. I keep thinking that the next movie is gonna be the one to ruin the series and then they turn out to actually be good.

People need to give the series credit. Horror series are known for being crap after the first movie. The Saw series has managed to keep it up without forcing some random BS continuation explaination down our throat.

Hostel was dumb, there was no plot but to torture people for just money. Saw is torture but it has a plot. There was some insane scenes in Hostel, though. The chick with the scythe....wow.

WHAT!? That movie was brilliant!
The ending where the kids were playing with the girls head was hilarious, and so was the extension cord bit, and that one crazy guy who was eating that guys calf muscle, and that creepy make-up lady. The conversation about the first guy in his class to lose his virginity was brilliant, and the sequence where he shot the kid was so amazingly well done.
I MEAN, WHAT THE HELL, MAN!?

You didn't miss much.

Lately if I want to watch a really good horror movie, I've been renting Japanese and French horror films. Those are true eerie, creepy, and scary movies. They make me jump :? I watched Audition the other night. Wow, that was a doozy....

Ah, you finally watched Audition, very nice.

As for Hostel II, I liked it better than the first, but that's not saying much. Both would never see an appearance in my Top 200 Horror Films.

Yep, after all this time.. finally :) I also recently watched Haute Tension and Otoshimono aka Ghost Train. Loved them! I have a list of some others I'd like to rent in the future as well. Any more suggestions from you would be grateful since I admire you taste in movies.

I think the only thing I liked about the first Hostel was the ending, how the guy got payback to the bad guy. The revenge factor was pretty sweet...

I'm glad you saw Haute Tension too. God that was brilliant....making a slasher in this day and age that didn't feel the least bit stale. Amazing. I haven't seen Ghost Train myself; I'll have to check it out.

Have you seen Kairo (the original Pulse), A Tale of Two Sisters, and The Host?

And if you want good atmospheric and psychological horror, please check out Let's Scare Jessica to Death. Same thing goes for The Sentinel (1977).

i dont like the saw or hostel series. however, id say that the hostel series is a bit better. it doesnt have the identity crisis that the plagues the saw movies. the fact that they think they are, in any way, smart is insulting.

yea thats the problem i have with the new horror movies coming out, its all just gore never anything new or creative or even scary most of the time. i agree that saw isnt as bad as hostel, the wierd contraptions at least kind of make it interesting, but i still think its just an excuse to make a gory movie. some good recent ones are 1408 and 30 days of night, though i think 1408 might be considered a thriller

I'm waiting for the whole torture porn fad to die. Meager budgets spent almost entirely on fake blood and rubber body parts do not make a horror movie, although they sure seem to draw in the crowds.

I dunno. The whole point of a horror movie is to draw you into the world with an increasing sense of dread and fear. Nausea is not related. I miss stuff like The Shining, which was intensely creepy in places and had next to no blood.

Anyone seen Chaos? Any Hostel/Saw fans should love that nihilistic piece of **bleep**. It's a better example than either series when it comes to the wrong direction horror has been going in. Though in a sense it is understandable, since why put effort into crafting a good story when you can pay crappy actors, film them in cheap sets and construct a movie out of things poking into people, dismembering, and cannibalism?

It was one of the worst movies I've ever seen..

Saw movies had a point, and that point was watching people getting tortured. Wrapping torture around an infantile motive that isn't even internally consistent within the context of the movie is not an excuse for torture as pornography.

On that note, I wonder how many people are gonna see the Watchmen movie, and comment on how it ripped off Saw.

Also, while I have not seen Hostel 2, the first Hostel movie was a smarter movie than Saw could ever hope to be.

Hey, The Cabin was freaking amazing, scary and gorey - one of my favourite horror movies, havent seen it in AGES tho.
