Unless you're talking about indentured servitude, which isn't really slavery, then this statement is like saying Americans were slaves to the US.... Which you could probably make a 'case' for. But I digress. No, the Confederacy wasn't formed because of the North's push to erradicate slavery. Hell, most Northerners were apathetic to those enslaved in their own nation.
