I'm watching this documentary about Walmart and how it's supposedly destroying america? I don't shop there enough to know why it's evil...but a lot of hard core americans are totally against them.
Thoughts?

I think that a lot of people are just against big business in general. Stores like Wal-Mart have forced smaller local (or "Mom n Pop") stores to close down, and that angers some people. I personally don't think that Wal-Mart is evil.... That's a bit much.t3hrubikscubeHmm now I'm at this part where they are talking to Walmart Employees, and they are totally depressed, cause they are not paid enough to support their families or medical care....This is a lot of negativity :(
Well since we live in an democratic society with a mostly free economy, no it's not evil. I would prefer the government had limitations on how big of a share of the market a business is allowed to get in each state and city, but we don't so they aren't. I think most economists say that Wal-Mart is good for the overall economy, and if that's the same documentary I saw, they will say that toward the end.guynamedbillyIt's called Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price....is that it?
Apparently they make their North American workers stay a few hours after closing time to do cleanup... and they don't even pay them for the extra time and work. They even lock them in, so they can't get out @_@

I knew someone who worked at Wal-mart and they never said anything about that.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that you work hard there at Wal-Mart, and you get paid less money an hour than some convient stores. Well, at least the QuikTrip chain I see offer $3 more an hour than Wal-Mart offers from what I've seen.ChrisSpartan117In my home town Wal-Mart paid more than any of the factories and retail stores.
I don't know, never seen one. But I also saw this documentary from... what were they called... I think it was "the South Park crew" or something like that. Anyway, they revealed that Wal-Mart was a life-sucking monster that puts neighboring stores out of business and that it needs to be killed by breaking it's heart... which is somewhere close to the Mega-store's TV section. :o Take their word for it, not mine.Hungry_bunny
I seen that too :o
But to be honest, no I don't think it's evil. I think it's really silly to call a big business like Wal Mart evil.
Just because some employee's get treated badly, that doesn't mean Wal mart is evil.
People who work anywhere can get treated badly, it all depends on what the boss and managers are like.
Walmart is yet another scumbag corporation that is pretty much ruining this country from the inside-out. Mom and pop stores just dont stand a snowballs chance in hell when a wally-world is spawned nearby. Down with Walmart!
Theres a movie you can google called Walmart - High Cost of Low Price, this will show you many ways of which this corp is hurting this country.

Supply and demand determines wages. I recommend you watch the video I posted in my previous post.
Walmart doesn't just treat its employees like dirt and drive out local businesses, but also only sells trash that was made in sweatshops in China. Some people act like hating Walmart just has to do with hating "big business" in general. Well, it would be one thing if Walmart actually created a lot of jobs in America, for you know, Americans. But that wouldn't be very profitable now would it?. So instead, they have starving Chinese children working for 5 cents an hour make their garbage for dirt-cheap, then make a killing selling it to the lower and middle clas ses here in America. In the process of selling all this stuff for so cheap, the local business all get driven out. And then there's a lot more people making less money. Hey, good thing they can buy cheap stuff at Walmart, right? Essentially, Walmart has some pretty despicable business practices that make a lot of money for the Walmart executives, but only hurt the American economy. So yes, Walmart really is that evil. drnick7
Sweatshops suck, but consider the alternative, and then you'll realize that they're better. America went through I time like this about 100+ years ago. It's a phase in which any developing country must go through in oder to transfer from manufacuring jobs to service jobs.

Uhhh...no, no they don't. If Wal-Mart employees hated their Wal-Mart, then they'd work somewhere else or go unemployed. Most Wal-Mart workers would be unemployed if they didn't work their because they can only do unskilled jobs. I love all this blind Wal-Mart hate. You can take a f'ing community college economics ****and learn that it's BS.
Well i just finished the walmart movie, and man...it sure does show a lot of BS... Unfair treatment to employees, communities and such. WOWI never shopped at walmart before, and I dont plan to either after seeing this movietrubluah
Watch the video I posted please. Or get a basic understanding of economics and capitalism.

Sorry, I'm not going to spend $3000 more a year just to shop at a Mom and Pop store where there's very little competition between them if any...

true , walmart just like k mart and other stores like them hire unskilled people and that is why they get paid the amount they do which is pretty good considering they are unskilled. and walmart never makes any one stay past closeing with out pay wal mart is super strict about people working off the clock. you work off the clock you get fired they dont screw around like .Please Log In to post.
