One of my good friends tried to hang himself back in grade 7 a bunch of times but could never tie the knot right lucky enough. Now we're in grade 11 and he has told me he might try again. His life time dream has kinda been ruined and he can't get a girl friend. As his friend I'm not really sure what to do. His parents know he tried back in grade 7 but I doubt they know about how he is feeling right now. What should I do? I don't want him to go through with it as I would feel super gulity

Why would you feel guilty? Did you have something to do with his dream apparently being ruined?

But anyways just try talking to him and being nice with him and stuff. Just be a caring friend. If that doesn't work, then...I don't know what to tell ya.

You should have him sit down and watch a few hours of documentaries about the universe. Hopefully, he'll realize that that he's being pathetic, petty, and self-absorbed. How can your life's dream be ruined when you are still only in high school?

I would but thatcould be a tipping point for him because they don't get along well. And a big argument at christmas seems counterproductive

If your friend truly is sucidal, help from a professional is needed. There is nothing you can really do to help other than just being a good friend.

You said 'a bunch of times' You don't 'try' and kill yourself a bunch of times. You either do or you don't (there can be 1...maybe 2 botched attempts...but not a 'bunch')

Why he thinks his life is ruined? Maybe you could help him by talking and proving he is not right about that.

Also, you should tell someone, maybe your school counselour and of course, his parents, even if they don't get along well they should now what he is thinking.

Let him kill him self, life is wasted on him. Besides it's not like he (or any of us) is going to do anything important later on. The best he can do with his self pitying is give the undertaker and the embalmer an honest day of work.

thegerg

Yeah. That conformist zombie is only racing to his grave anyway. People don't realize that life is just dark, depressing lonliness.

Freaking posers.

hermaneitor

Hey life some of the time sucks, and it's not fair. But I'd rather fight and enjoy it than sit in a dark corner drowning is self pity.

How is that your friend pretend to be in the army if he can't even take a discussion with his own father.

Anyway, you should talk to him and convince him to get in shape so he can get in the army, aside from that, i don't see what else you can do.

Yeah, well then tell him he's in luck. Even as a little tubby tub-boat, he can still join the army. They'll accept anyone. I have plenty of fat friends in the military.

If he didn't tie the knot right he most likely didn't want to die in the first place...if you want to kill yourself the chances are you will not fail..if he's telling you that he might try it again then he probably wants you to stop him..

If I was suicidal, no one would know about until the first time when I succeeded without a chance of failing. You know, because nearly anything else is just attention seeking on my half? Something I'm generally too lazy to do? Sorry, I don't believe your friend's motives - and if you're seriously posting on here about how he's really suicidal, then we shouldn't believe you (either).

No, you have to fail to be tried. Which is kinda funny. It's like they are arresting you because you are such a failure in that you failed to kill yourself.

True..i tend to think his friend won't go through with the act...he's "failed" multiple times already..that doesn't scream "i want to kill myself" to me..

Unless he's handicapped mentally or physically he would have killed himself already by now..if he did indeed want to..

Believe me, I couldn't care less if the kid succeeded or not, I'm just trying to save the OP some pain if his friend is legitimately suicidal.

But seriously, how hard is it to tie a hangman's noose?

mahlasor
No, he should not do that. Someone who is not trained in psychology/psychiatry should not be attempting to hand out diagnoses to friends. That won't do any good. Maybe his friend has mental illness, maybe not. It's hard to tell from the short description we've been given. Borderline isn't that common. What he should do instead is just let his friend know that he's there for him. It sounds like his friend just needs some support and for someone to care. TC, if you really are concerned, perhaps you should bring it to someone else's attention - some of your mutual friends, his parents, his siblings (if he has any), a guidance counselor, etc.
