Most of the people in this thread have not seen a single Malick film, therefore, their opinion is no good.
Malick films are all about visuals, not CGI or cool explosion visuals, but beautiful scenery and photography, images that make us see and reflect on the beauty of life. We don't see much of the trailer and the actual "tree", but I'm sure that it must be dazzling.
Anyone who has seen a movie by Terrence Malick knows that the narration (which we hear in the trailer) is often beautiful, artistic and key to understanding the themes of the movie. The narration doesn't narrate the story, but comments on it and on the ways it applies to life (see: Days of Heaven).
Also, I hate the word "pretentious". Please stop using it. People seem to apply it to anything that tries to be smart or artistic. It's just used as a counter to any movie that is too smart for people with low film IQ.
If you find a movie boring, fine, say you think its boring, but don't call it pretentious.

How can their opinon be no good, if it's just that- an opinon? If a trailer can't stand by it's self, and needs the viewer to see another different (unaffilitated) film, then what does that say about the quality of said trailer?
Also, sorry to say, but I'm very much entitled to the use of the word pretentious. The space shots look like they were thrown in to make the story (which I gather to be a kind of father-son relationship story) seem more massive and significant that it probably really is. Like I said, I'm going to wait and see before I make any real judgements (good movies can often have so-so trailers, and vice-versa).
If you have seen a Terrence Malick film, you probably understand the trailer. Its that simple. Thats why dismissing it without having seen any Terrence Malick film is misinformed.
