So on April the 8th way my 24th birthday and even tho I never do anything or have celebrated it since I was like 12, this year was a pretty... distressing.

Why?

Because no one noticed. Not one person said anything to me. It was pretty wierd.

IDK what I was expecting since I normally dont do anything or care much for it, but Its pretty bad when not one person around recognize it.

Last year I had a GF so even tho it fell on a tuesday and I told her not to worry about it, she still took me out for dinner. And people at work said H-BD, Facebook crap, texts, whatever.

But this year... absolutely nothing.

Has this happened to you?

IDK what to think about it... should I just get used to it from now on it will be like this, or do I have to do something? IDK how to feel.

No. I live over 14,000 km from my family and my lady, but I made friends here and I have facebook. People wished me a happy birthday (2 weeks ago) and some buddies took me out for a bbq. Even acquaintances wished me a happy birthday. There are a number of reasons why no one noticed or bothered to show it. You would, or should, know more than anyone here.

If only I were to be so lucky, I started deactivating my Facebook account the day before my Birthday so I wouldn't receive any of the attention that comes with it, then I started doing it a week before and then I realized that the attention (or even the possibility of it) is what brought me stress so I said: "so why exactly do I need this in my life that brings me stress?". That's right, I don't need it. Kaput went my Facebook account.

Some individuals (not saying this is your case necessarily) try to go unnoticed but once their wish is granted they start to wonder if that is what they really wanted. In my case, the best the day is the day after my birthday since I'm free to say to others "thank you, don't worry about it, everything is fine" and the conversation is over. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If I didn't have my facebook account, I wouldn't receive any attention either. I don't care though. I don't even celebrate birthdays.

When I worked no one ever said happy birthday to me and worked at same place for 6 years. Although like Christmas, Easter etc I am not bothered about celebrating any way and not bothered about my own birthday. One day I will have a bacon sandwich for my Christmas dinner instead of traditional turkey. lol.

I don't like parties, in general. I don't even like hanging out with friends unless we have a set agenda, a plan, wherewith we'll comply accordingly. I hate to expend my energy, and that too on people? Nope. If you're up for a good conversation over a cup of tea/coffee, then I'm in. Otherwise, no. This is the major reason why I don't keep any phone/smartphone; I don't want people bothering me.

Ahhh ! so you are a introvert person like me, keeping to self only :) . I've only couple of childhood best freinds. Don't bother anyone else nor like anyone else bothering me much.

I don't do parties , or celebrate my birthday in any big way. Just treat these freinds to any resturant they desire or to a movie :)

First off, *High five*

I don't even offer a treat but the few close friends I do have always drag me out of my room and force me to treat them. Though it's another thing that I never pay for the treat that I AM giving them.

Well, to be honest I've never had anyone who was really close to me not remember my birthday, but I can understand why you have an issue with it. It's just human nature that we want to be appreciated and rememberd, but at the same time, we can't let other people's thoughts(good or bad) control how we live our lives or what we think about ourselves.

Life goes on but I will wish you a LATE HBD! :)

Women are incredibly good at remembering birthdays. Usually the success of my birthdays is dependent almost entirely on how many women I am around. Personally Im not fussed. I prefer buying gifts for others.

I don't care about my own birthday, I am an adult. However, my wife and family likes giving gifts to each other. So there's always things happening around birthdays.

Happy belated birthday Kendo! I'm sorry to hear it didn't go too well. It's kind of depressing when that happens but that is what it can be like when you get older. Get married and have some kids!

Happy birthday! I suppose it can be a bit stressful when people forget, but personally I don't mind; half the time I don't even remember.

Want to know what I did on my birthday this year? I worked a 15 hour shift. Silly me forgot to ask for a day off.

Welcome to adulthood.

My dad never celebrated anything. There was never a Christmas, or birthdays, or anything. When i was old enough to recognize birthdays, i wondered into my parents bedroom expecting a gift. There was nothing wrapped up anywhere. I asked my parents for gift, and my dad handed me a back pack for school. Not wrapped up or anything. I looked inside every pocket and nothing, i learned that day never to ever expect anything on birthdays, or any special occasion.

Think you had it bad ey ? Lol ..

I went (and still go) through the same. Christmas, B-Days, I never got anything from the family either. Hell I've only experience a handful or less Thanksgiving Dinners in my 24 year life. Last year my freinds sister felt so bad for me (even tho I was fine and used to it and kept telling her it was ok) that she sent her dad to my job to talk to me about coming over their house for TG. I was about to, but my mom pissed me off that day that I just didnt want to be around people for the rest of the day.

Im used to that and grew up like that. Thats wasnt the issue here. The issue here was that even tho I dont really celebrate it and dont think much of it, this year was the first time the NO ONE SAID a thing to me. Its not about them giving me things (no one really has) its the fact that people generally would recognize it and from their own will would say or 'Happy B-Day" etc.

But not one person, no family, no friends, no co-workers, no one on FB. No text no phone call.

That is the wierd part, that no one knew or cared. Not that I didnt get anything.

Your parents should be ashamed! That is terrible! As a newer parent myself, I am really excited about celebrating holidays with my son. Hell I buy him toys all the time now, just because. And he's only 18 months and likes the wrapper/box more than the toy.

Happy belated birthday Kend0. I know you don't know me, and birthdays at that age are kinda silly, but everyone should hear "happy birthday" on their birthday.

I also am 24. I don't really care for birthdays. Nobody cares to celebrate your birthday because you are not a child anymore. What even is a birthday?

"Yayy I am here for another year while less privaledged people around the world are dying for pointless reasons before they even get out of school".

I am always annoyed when I see other people my age organising big partys for themselves because they think that they are so important to the world, when in fact nobody wants to be there and everyone just goes so that they can enjoy the fact that straight afterwards will be the longest time before they have to do it again.

Regardless, in years to come when your son or daughter walks up to you with a shitty little birthday card, will you care about all those birthdays that everyone forgot?

Its not like that man...

What happened was that when my parents got devorce my mom went through some roughs spots, and thought that by coming to the US would make it better, but it fucking didnt. We became worst off by coming over here to the US.

We went from being upper middle class, to $300 away from poverty. My parents were both bankers, one in the mortgage section and the other in accounting. Thats how they met, working at the bank.

I was your typical upper middle class private school going, summer camp, clubs, and sport doing kid, living in a semi gated newly built community. We were so well that my mom didnt work for ten years taking care of us, since my father salary was enough. They got divorced and she went to work in a doctors office, but still doing alright because she hired a baby sitter for us and we still went to private school, camp, sports, etc.

Then my mom made the worst mistake of her life and decided to move us to the US. We have yet to recovered. She worked for CVS part time... we lived in a shitty neighbor hood with shitty schools in a shitty duplex. So of course their werent gonna be no birthdays, christmas, thanksgiving, sports, camps, trips, vacations, graduations, days off, access to fun.

We live in a house now (the last 9 year) but we are that house in the alright neighborhood that looks the worst out of the other houses around and has the oldest cars out of the neighborhood.

The only reason I was excited for my birthday as a kid was that I would get new shit. Now that I have my own money and buy what I want, I don't look forward to my birthday. Usually I just go out and drink with friends, but we'd be doing that anyway regardless of my birthday lol.

To be fair to people, can I argue there's too many birthdays to remember?
