Umm... I live in a socialist democracy? I like it ^^

guess there is a reason that the nordic countries are the place with most wealth per citisen, free medicare, free education (and still usually lie in the top 10-20 in our effeciency).

Ironicly I somewhat give credit to socialism that the Danes are the least religious people in the world, as in we are goverened by Logic, and science, we do have an official church, and pay taxes to it, but religion is pretty much a political suicide if a politician gets into the subject.

I kinda like our fairly high taxes, to support the infrastructure, a sa collective, and I do like that even if you get fired, you still "get" about 2000$ a month, to support your life (if you have children it is higher). I also kinda love the minimum wage is set where it is set, andthat basicly anyone can get a high paying job, without his/her parrents have to pay for education, and hope it turns out (the average Job in Denmark pt. lies at about 6000$)

Capitalism is somewhat scary to me (together with communism), I sort of see them as extremes, which both dictates a human beings worth before they are born, and I can not really see any of them as total "freedom"because if you were born from the wrong parrents you are pretty much knee deep in it, a few makes it out but most dont.

I guess that If I were American I would be a Democrat, huh? ^^Cant say alot about the states in particular, since Ive never been there. I guess they are not balls-to-the-wallCapitalistic either...

i got the excat same opinion as him....eventhough we got the worlds highest tax rate in the world i would not live anywhere else...and pools shows most ofour population feels the same way..if we can see the money we pay in tax being spend in a way that helps the society(free school, hospitals, etc etc etc) it is fine by us

[QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"][QUOTE="battlefront23"] Socialism is a government oriented economic system; communism is an advanced form of it. Essentially, it "spreads" the wealth to everyone. Capitalism is a business oriented economic system where government does not interfere. Or at least in pure capitalism.

Not all socialists believe that an authoritarian government should run the economy. There are libertarian branches of socialism.

That's true, but I think the economic system often goes hand in hand with the political system. If the government controls most of the economy, it has a hand in every aspect of the lives of its people almost by default, making it more congruent to authoritarianism or totalitarianism.

True, but I am not talking exclusively about the political system. Philosophies such as libertarian socialism and democratic socialism are more congruent with, say, anarchism then they are with more authoritarian ideologies.

100% socialism would never work, nor would 100% capitalism. A mixture of both however.

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single
student, but had once failed an entire c lass.

The c lass (students) insisted that socialism worked since no one would be poor and
no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we
will have an experiment in this c lass on socialism."

"All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no
one will fail and no one will receive an A."

After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The
students who had studied hard were upset while the students who had studied
very little were happy.

But, as the second test rolled around, the students who had studied little
studied even less and the ones who had studied hard decided that since they
couldn't make an A, they also studied less. The second Test average was a D.

No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average grade was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling, all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else.

To their great surprise all failed.

The professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail.

The harder people try to succeed the greater their reward (capitalism) but when a government takes all the reward away (socialism) no one will try or succeed.

This, my friend, would be communism, which is NOT the same as socialism, which is a common misconception.

Capitalism: The unequal distribution of wealth.

Socialism: The equal distribution of misery.

Capitalism FTW.

well i've just been thinking that for a poor country socialism is the best approach for a government (since they would control their own natural resources, but if this happens sadly Canada, USA and first world countries woudn't be so prosoperous since the poor of other countries pretty much give us a good life) then while they get a bit more rich they can slowly move to a democratic society while keeping some socialist stuff like healthcare for all.
