It's either Death, Black, Doom or Symphonic. Really just pick any one of them and you could consider it my "favourite".
Melodic Death Metal (At The Gates, In Flames, Sacrilege) or Melodic Black Metal (Dissection, Windir, Catamenia). However, my favorite band is actually Agalloch and you can't throw them into a single genre.
Anything progressive, doesn't matter which genre. (Admittedly, I have been having a lot of fun with Viking Metal lately :P)D_BatteryTyr is a ****ing awesome band that plays Progressive/Viking Metal if you haven't already heard of them.
Death metal. I dabble in other stuff, though. The only genres I won't touch are speed metal and the -cores.
So nobody else likes metalcore QQlyetiNot really. GameSpot is full of Metal elitists who promote real metal. lol I'm joking in a way but it's sort of true at the same time.

It's completely true, there are tons of people on this forum, such as myself, who don't consider the "core" genres to be actual metal, as they are hardcore with some metal elements.

I tried death metal, but it just sounded dead to me. i didn't feel THE PASSION. I prefer really energetic songs. the only bands that i listen to that could be anywhere near death metal are In flames (only from Colony onwards though) and i got into Heaven Shall burn which is apparently deathcore. I reckon this is cause i kind of got into metal by listening to popular hard rock/ alternative metal stuff though like papa roach. Although the first time i realised i like metal was with the power metal...

Hmm... have you checked out Death, Bolt Thrower, Amon Amarth, Ensiferum, or Bloodbath?

thx for the linkws, you just may yet get me into pure metal :)There's no such thing as "pure metal," at least not when you're talking about metal subgenres...
Also, I'm happy to help with recommendations as much as I can. PM me if you ever want any.

Whoracle and The Jester Race are their most melodic efforts if you ask me. You should go back and listen to those albums.

This song has growling on it, but they mix up their vocals a lot on their debut album Cybion. Also check out shrinebuilder.
I tend to enjoy alot of types of Metalcore best.
I like alot of different types though ^^MuddVader
wtf there are multiple types of metalcore now? this subgenre needs to be stopped before there is brutal metalcore, melodic metalcore, depressive metalcore, symphonic metalcore, progressive metalcore, groove metalcore, metalcore core , grind metalcore , god forbit we ever get stoner or doom metalcore.. or the worst.. DRONE METALCORE.

Agreed. 100%...With emphasis on Amon Amarth and Ensiferum...Another really underrated genre is "celtic metal" or something, it mixes celtic music and metal that's all I know...it sounds so unique and awesome, but I'm also a fan of celtic music. I think the band is Fiintroll or something along those lines that I really like.EDIT: Yup, Finntroll...I spelled it wrong. Here's there best song :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGywo81G6lk
EDIT: And it's called "Folk Metal" just found that out right now...still love it!
I never really got into the Jester Race and WhoracleColony was very similar to Jester Race and Whoracle. :? I know but it just didn't work for me. I will try it again soon though :)[QUOTE="lyeti"][QUOTE="Assassin1349"]I don't understand why you would like Colony and not Whoracle or the Jester Race. I've recently got into doom metal and funeral doom. Bands like Draconian and Shape Of Despair are epicdeimos113Try out "Pantheist" and "Skepticism" too. Them and Shape of Despair are my favorites.
Progressive/Experimental Death/Black metal usually does it for me. Opeth, Edge of Sanity, Enslaved, Portal, Pan.Thy.Monium, etc etc.
So nobody else likes metalcore QQlyetiI like some metalcore. Mine are Nu, Alternative, Thrash, Power, Progressive, Southern, and Industrial.
Mine is definitiviely at the moment metalcore, although i once like power metal (Dragonforce, sonata arctica, Helloween, Rhapsody, Hammerfall, stratovarius, gamma ray, etc) What is yours?lyetiits called subgenre...because metal itself is a genre
