[QUOTE="aaronmullan"] How isn't it?dhyce
I believe it's generally considered a form of Punk, despite its title.
But it takes influences from both Metal and hardcore punk. Metal = Metal, Core = Hardcore. It's a sub-genre of metal and punk.I love metalcore, then right below that is probably melodic death metal. Metalcore haters (I'm assuming everyone), say what you want but it's not going to change the fact that I love metalcore.podliver
YA :) . what metalcore bands you listen to? I listen to All that remains, August burns red (really good metalcore :) ), Avenged 7x, Bullet for my valentine, Heeaven shall burn, Killswitch engage, Trivium mainly.

I agree, the vocals of Trivium are reminiscent of Hardcore Punk. I think anybody who feels this way about Trivium is probably unfamiliar with both Metal and its many subgenres/roots and Hardcore Punk back in its glory days. Trivium sounds - to me - like a Poppier version of an average Hardcore group who can't rock to hard, for fear they might wake mom as they play in the garage. It's like.... castrated Hardcore.
Just listen to Heaven shall burn if you really want to have the death metal vocals (death metal vocals aren't the only ones) meanwhile the instruments used are definitely metal. No question about it D:. Just cause metalcore isn't like death metal or doom metal doesn't mean its not metal. Its like saying power metal ain't metal. You'll just have to live with metalcore being considered metal by all but the elitists :(

I'm not an elitist at all when it comes to Metal. I'm not even that big of a Metal fan, actually. Power Metal is undeniably Metal, everything about it showers the roots of Heavy Metal and Hair Metal with endless praise, it's one of the most Metal of Metal subgenres. Metalcore's controversy stems from it having more to do with Punk than Metal, generally. Which is a fact.
What does it have to do with elitism? Can't you just accept your music falls under the hardcore/punk banner - not metal? We argue with logic and reason, and you argue with "buh..buh..elists".Just listen to Heaven shall burn if you really want to have the death metal vocals (death metal vocals aren't the only ones) meanwhile the instruments used are definitely metal. Ye but yur saying that something that has instrumentals like metal, melodies and metal riffs, some of the bands have metal vocals. Yes definitely some bands err on the side of the hardcore/punk scene and most of the bands do look /act like punk bands. But that doesn't mean that metalcore isn't metal. Its a hybrid metal that isn't made up of two types of metal.. Most of the original metal started out as hybrids too, yet its still called metal. For example progressive metal used to be progressive rock/metal. What you are saying is that metalcore isn't metal, even though the bands i listen to are a lot more than a half half metal:hardcore/punk and definitely shouldn't be considered punk/hardcore. If I told a progressive metal fan that his music isn't metal, what would his reaction be?[QUOTE="lyeti"]

The drumming isn't too metal either.Yes, because "To The Rats" isn't obviously a thrash metal song. How about say "Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis" with it's almost death metal growls and technical riffs? Yep, quite punk to me. Double kick in the drums is quite punk, isn't it?KHAndAnime

It most definitely is a proper metal genre, but it is also a proper punk genre. Since when was it commonly accepted? Where are you getting these facts from? Just sounds like you don't like it and you're trying to "spin" your opinion into fact.
How about Sequoia Throne by Protest the Hero? Fast paced song. The riffs are very technical and metal. The vocals range from high pitched singing, high pitched screaming, death growls and normal singing, which is quite metal. The drumming is also very fast paced. Yep, this song is extremely punk.
All kinds but my favorite are Gothic/ Symphonic, Metalcore, Hardcore, and Death Metal. Also like Metalcore. I can't really only pick one or two their all so good.
To think this is were it all started, a birth of a genre... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BkhtJM8CqE
The first 2 minutes are so eerie.
Symphonic Metal I think. Not sure if it's entirely Metal, (or if it is what genre it falls under) but I've heard some songs by Nightwish and they're awesome.

So nobody else likes metalcore QQlyeti
I love metalcore. Atreyu, KSE, All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, Bullet For My Valentine, Haste The Day, etc. You name it in metalcore, and I probably listen to it. I don't understand why it gets so much hat these days though.

Cause it's generic and trendy.I'd say it's about half an half. Take a band like Trivium, the vocals are Metal, the guitars are obviously quite metal, the drumming especially. Because it doesn't. If we go by your "logic and reason" then Thrash Metal isn't metal. What about Dying Fetus? They take tons of influence from Hardcore punk but they're considered metal. This whole "METALCORE ISNT METAL" crap comes from a hate of the genre by a few vocal members here. If you don't consider metalcore metal because of slight punk influences, then you'd be a hypocrite to consider Thrash/Crossover/ and even some death metal as "true" metal[QUOTE="lyeti"]

Death Metal owns all. Immolation for the freaking win 8) Darth-Caedus
One of the few american death metal bands that I like a lot.
Trivium in my eyes is definitely more punk than metal Oh my god what? Yeah, I'll go ahead and say what most people here don't agree with, but Metalcore is still Metal more than it is anything else.[QUOTE="KHAndAnime"]

Progressive, Power, Symphonic, and Gothic.
We really need a topic where we post alot of good ones from those genres.
Since the majority of people who don't like metal/ dont get the appeal have only heard Traditional Heavy Metal and / Death Metal.
You want metal with awesome clean vocals? I can give 2 dozen from those genres that would blow your socks off.
