[QUOTE="STWELCH"]Ha, I think you would be surprised how easy the US could crush the Russian military.Flotsam

Well fist of all russia has more infanry soldiers, second it has more tanks and third most important its has more nukes, twice as many.

Most of those advantages are null in modern combat. Possessing twice as many nuclear weapons is irrelevant if you don't have a survivable second-strike capability and reliable delivery systems. That's not to mention the fact that both sides have significantly more nuclear weapons than are necessary to destroy each other. It's mutually assured destruction. If your tank operators and infantry are poorly trained numerical advantages mean nothing. I also suspect that Russia's economy isn't robust enough to sustain a full blown war with the United States. Either way, war would be far too costly for both sides, hence why it isn't going to happen.

First one is wrong, second one is wrong and third ours are much more accurate and have a longer range.

The M1 Abrams can crush any tank on the battlefield today, the Russian T-90 would not stand any chance against it.

There have been 10,000 M1 Abrams built but only 580 T-90s the T-72s as seen in Iraq stand no chance against an Abrams, with them losing 5,000 tanks to no US losses.

There are 8000 of m1 vs 23000. there 800000 full duty soldiers in the US, Russia has 1000000.

Oh, I absolutely agree. Losses on both sides would be exorbitant and unacceptable for both parties involved.

It's pretty funny the replies from Johnny American 1 and 2 over there. 95 percent of South Ossetia are Russian Seperatists. Learn to read a book sometimes before you put your finger on the trigger. Second of all, The Us economy is so poorly in debt that a war thousands of miles away would be a disaster. Your fighting Russia, who has 684,000 enlisted infantry, thousands of tanks. Russia has never been a quality over quantity army. You don't think they would just simply overwhelm the U.S forces with Numbers? What do you think this would do to the american economy? It's hilarious to even fathom the United States winning such a war. Take a look at your own countries situation before you meddle in another.

In a situation like that, US priorities would differ and a lot more money would go towards the war. Before WWII economy was down but that didnt prevent US from producing war products at a rate that was thought impossible. US would not be the only one fighting Russia as well(Russia would have help too). No war is 'easy' but I still like my countries position in battle.

US is not going to war with Russia - the US needs Russia to get Iran to stop enriching Uranium. Though I do believe NATO should step in and set Russia straight.

It would be mutually destructive. Don't try and ignore the fact that Russia isn't infallible either. They might be capable of a short, defense-oriented battle in their sphere of influence but they couldn't sustain a war on our territory. The United States has the best maneuver forces in the world. That's undisputed. Besides, two nuclear powers aren't going to fight each other head on in a conventional war. That's just absurd. But, you're right, the United States has its own problems that would help preclude it from waging an "easy" war against Russia.

A war between Russia and the US simply won't happen...Niether country would have any hope of achieving victory without one side turning to nuclear weapons...the best way to deal with Russia is to get Ukraine into NATO and simply block them from doing anything further.

When everything boils down to NATO vs. Russia neither side has the balls to actually attack eachother head on.

YES PLEASE! for once UNITED STATES LET OTHER COUNTRIES SOLVE THEIR OWN MATTERS!! god dang it we are like world police we have to monitor everything in every country. as long as something does not harm US, than we don't have to do anything about it.

Do some research on the subject. You will then realize how ignorant you sound.

I don't think the United States will go to war with Russia, it would be completely stupid on both sides. Not only that but the US is hurting in manpower for both the wars in Iraq, and Afghanistan. A lot of the top-leaders are figuring out ways to bring more US troops to Afghanistan due to the spike in violence.

No, read up on Georgia and it's relationships to the west. It's a democratic country with which the West has strong relations to. It will soon be a part of NATO. If Russia continues, something has to be done.

Its funny how the Human race kills themselves for trivial reasons, you know we are the only species that kills for the hell of it, not because of survival. but hey i guess its natures way of controlling a mistake.

keep fighting your wars, go join the army and feel proud of killing people hopefully the same thing will happen to you.

Chimps do it as well.

"But chimps, the animals most closely related to humans, are known to be highly jealous of territory, patrolling and defending borders constantly. Even without logging, violent clashes are known to erupt in which chimps kill each other with their bare hands and feet. In at least two documented cases, large communities of chimpanzees have systematically hunted down smaller ones and killed all members."

but it is for their survival.Russia and Georgia are fighting for a violation of cease fire. these things should not be happening.

we are not learning from history, its WWI all over again, one side asks for help, the other side has allies that are forced to help. it breaks into an all out war with multiple countries.

Russia and the US will not fall into a war, niether side wants it, plus the US is short on man power as it is, and just say we do go into war, the US would probably pull out of Iraq and put full force into Russia, and a full powered US vs. Russa, Russia will stand no chance witout nuclear weapons, which hopefully they will not use, but if so, the US will counter and both countries will fall.

Um, no, yes, and no. America and Russia have about the same amount of forces, but America has about 200k more. Russia has more tanks, but this is a war that would be dominated by airplanes dropping bombs. Russia HAD more nuclear weopens but at the collapse of the Soviet Socialist Republic, most of the weopens went to other countries. Plus our defense budget is 10 times more than Russia's, should we need more weopens we can get them.

P.S. when trying to win an argument on this topic don't bring u the amount of nukes each country has, as neither would use them (as it would mean without a doubt that their own country would get destroyed), and it only takes about 5 to decimate a population. It would be used only as a last resort or if the other country launched them

No to protect its citizens.

Rather invade another country and call them their citizens.

Actually 70% of the people in South Ossetia, where they are fighting, are Russian citizens or hold Russian passports

Even if USA goes into war with Russia in Georgia, it would hardly be a world war since no other country would dare take a position.

It's more like the Korean and Vietnam war.

In that case, Somalia and Rwanda were also world war by your criteria...

The present situation in Georgia is more similar with the cold war.

No, it wasn't. If the US intervined as soon as Hitler violated the treaty when he began conscrpition in 1935, there would've been no conflict.

I'm not sure if either country would resort to nukes right off of the bat. I dont think that either country wants to essentially send itself back to the dark ages.

People should stop talking about WWIII, it's just not going to happen anytime soon because the wounds and nightmares from the last one are still fresh in every world leaders' mind and their respective citizens. To think that NATO will step in for Georgia is asinine; nobody wants a war with Russia, especially Europe. All we can expect from the them is empty acrimonious rhetoric. As for the US taking on Russia, this is not feasible as the US military is stretched out too thin, it would take weeks if not months to concentrate a force capable of tackling Moscow. Need I remind you people that no one has fully and completely taken down Russia in the last ~500 years. Militarily speaking, yes the US can take down Russia for the time being, but Russia is coming back with a whole new aresenal of potent weapons, tanks, fighter aircraft, missiles etc. This is not the same Russia of the 90's, this new Russia has a solid economy and is a military superpower.

On a second thought., I wonder what the Chinese think of Georgia now that it has stolen some their thunder from the Opening Ceremony:| I think that is the real question.

I think the real question is that how the Chinese happen to be leading in medals and they are the host. I smell something fishy!

America in on the brink right now and it needs allies and those allies are in Europe. If Georgia is taken over by Russia that would potentially mean major problems for most of Europe. Georgia is a small little place through which oil is transported to European countrys. The EU cannot sit and do nothing becouse of this little fact. Everyone needs oil and for parts of Europe it comes from Georgia. Also one great mistake was already made. China one of the worlds super powers has been given the message: do what you want, we dont care cause you make cheap things for us. Giving the same message to Russia by not doing anything about the current conflict would be catastrophic.

If the U.S. went to war with Russia, I'm sure they would have to get the draft back. But I highly doubt we will go to war with Russia, like someone else said, Bush only goes to war with countries he knows don't pose any real threat. Russia is a different beast all together, I doubt very many Americans are willing to die for Georgia, a country a few days ago they didn't know existed(the only reason I knew it existed was because of the movie "Red Heat").

YES PLEASE! for once UNITED STATES LET OTHER COUNTRIES SOLVE THEIR OWN MATTERS!! god dang it we are like world police we have to monitor everything in every country. as long as something does not harm US, than we don't have to do anything about it.

Do some research on the subject. You will then realize how ignorant you sound.

Yes, Fighter, you're an idiot. Your suggesting something called isolationism, an it was the cause of WWII

Whoa, isolationism caused WWII? You mean it wasn't the barbaric and inerventionist Treaty of Versailles that crippled the German economy?

No, it wasn't. If the US intervined as soon as Hitler violated the treaty when he began conscrpition in 1935, there would've been no conflict.

Oh it was the treaty that made them go mad. They practically gave Germany no where to go.
