Use to, some crappy deal Best Buy set up and within like 2 months one of my subs and my amp had been blown.

But what does everyone else have?

I already got some new subs.

 http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=4&series_id=31&family_id=10&item_id=108278&locale=en_US&p_status=

Thats basically them except mine say on the box that they are "Dual 2 or 4 ohm subwoofer."

Thats the only real difference I could notice.

Just working for this amp now

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=2&series_id=6&family_id=20&item_id=106463&locale=en_US&p_status=

I got a question though, could I run both of my 12" subs with that amp at 2 ohms, to get like a total of 550 watts?

Thats what I plan on doing, if I got everything right.

And whats the difference in ohms do really?

This is one of the more unusual posts to come through Gamespot. Well, I just happen to have been an MECP-certified car audio installer back in the day.

Based on your post, it's no wonder you blew your last amp (this is not an insult). The Punch series of amplifiers is Rockford's low-end or entry-level amp line, and if you had a similar entry-level amplifier before in any similar setup, it is not unusual for you to have blown the amp.

What happens is when you bridge a 2-channel amp into a single channel, the amp sees the load at half-resistance. So if you have an 8-ohm sub bridged to a 2-channel amp, the amp sees a 4 ohm load. Two 4-ohm subs hooked up to a 2-channel amp - presumably in parallel - will result in an effective 1-ohm load to the amp. A Punch amp, and even most high-end amps BTW, simply cannot handle a 1-ohm load, and blow up. Catch fire. Pop fuses. You get the picture.

I'm not sure what you have for subs, but I would reconsider your wiring setup. At the very least, purchase a dedicated mono subwoofer amplifier. Make sure the installer is MECP certified, or you get help from a Crutchfield tech.

There is nothing wrong with Rockford amps, they're great, just remember that entry-line amps will have a shorter life span and are more likely to crap-out on you

Myself? I've got a Pioneer Elite Head Unit running to three Alpine V-Series amplifiers, a single Alpine 12" SWR-1240D, two Kicker SS Series separates in the front, and two 4" coaxials for filler in the rear.

I also used to compete with a pair of Cerwin Vega 12" Subs, and another car had two Kicker XPL subs.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to advise.

Well those arent the subs that blew. Besy buy actually told me that my subs blew, not my amp, so i bought those two new rockford subs i showed you. And the amp I showed I dont have yet. I wanted to get it. My old subs were these http://www.sjgreatdeals.com/fubr-12.html And this something kinda like my old amp.... not the same thing http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7168815&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03085&id=1110266456967 The subs I have now are the Rockford P2's, What amp/s would you recommend to get the full power of the two subwoofers? Like all 250 watts for each sub.

Any Mono Class D amplifier would fit the bill. While you'll get arguments like crazy from people at SoundDomain about what amp brand is best, any Class D Mono Sub Amp will power those subs just fine. Here's a great list to start. I have bought from OnlineCarStereo, and they're okay. The prices make the crappy service worth it. Alternative include WoofersEtc, which has been great, or the more pricey Crutchfield, which will give you the best possible support. Consider the Alpine MRP-M450 or Soundstream Di175.1 as entry-level, quality amplifiers. The next step up would be the Soundstream Di475.1, MTX TA3401, Alpine MRP-M650, or Audiobahn A8005DN. If you're going Rockford, make sure you get something from their POWER line, not their PUNCH line. There's a big difference, and you'll hear it (and feel it). I hit about 141db in my car with two subs. Be careful when selecting a ported or sealed enclosure, it will affect sound, power requirements, and volume. Also remember that the GAIN knob on the amp is NOT a volume knob.

No, a mono amp is an amplifier that only amplifies one channel. One amplifier can power multiple speakers when they are either bridge or in series (which changes the resistance, measured in ohms). I would suggest - based on the questions you are asking - that you visit this site. This should answer most of your basic questions, and if you have more, just ask me!

Alrite I think I'm startin to get a hang of it. So instead of dropping about 400 dollars on an amp I could drop much less while still having about the same power being outputted. All in all if you had those two Rockford P2's and about 450 dollars, which amp would you buy from your personal experience to get the max out of both of the subwoofers? Also the amp kit? Would I need a new one?

I just noticed something.

My Rockford subs say they are P2 DVC.

Dual Voice Coil.

On that site you showed me it recommened that for subs with DVC's to use a 2- channel amp.

So would that be better than a Mono Amp?

Thanks again for all your help.

I do not recommend using a two-channel amp for DVC subs. Instead, I'm going to recommend that, "It depends." It has to do with the resistance of the voice coils. If your subs have two 4ohm voice coils, you will likely be better off with a two-channel amp. You would wire your subs in parallel (look this up) and put a 2-ohm load to each of the two channels. HOWEVER, you can also run the two subs in series, then in parallel (each sub would be 8ohms individually, than parallel the two 8-ohm loads, yielding a 4-ohm load). So there are lots of options. Whether your subs have dual 2-ohm, 4-ohm, or 8-ohm (unusual) coils will determine which type of amp you need.

I have a truck. So, no trunk to put speakers in. Even if I did, I wouldn't see the point anyway. If you want to listen to your music loud, that's fine. Roll up your windows and turn the speakers up. But is it really necessary to force everyone in a five block radius to listen to your ****ing bass for 15 minutes? I can't possibly count the number of times I've woken up in the middle of the night because some **** is blasting his system as he rides slowly down a road two or three streets away at four in the morning.

Alrite well what if your subs say they are Dual 2 or 4 ohm Subwoofer. Does that mean it could work with a 2ohm load and a 4 ohm load? All in all I just want your recommendation for the perfect amp, for those two Rockford subs, to get 250 RMS out of both of them

This is the wrong forum for this. Try: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/forum/default.asp If you want my recommendation, you'll need to send me the EXACT model number of the sub. Private message me, this probably doesn't need to be in the forum anymore. Also, check out the ridiculously long Blog entry I wrote about car audio here.
