I feel socialism to be an overall bad thing. In theory (that is what it is) it sounds to great, everyone is equal. Socialism sounds to be utopia. It perpetuates a sense of equality by forcing it upon individuals (which is its practice). Socialism can never work due to men being men (which is corrupt). Individualism on the otherhand has a greater chance of fulfullment, such as capitalism (a regulated capitalism with a little social engineering, but not to much).

Total socialism is awful, but certain aspects can be accomplished and work in a productive way; I just can't think of any right off hand: Social Security (bankrupt), medicare (bankrupt), medicaide (bankrupt), unemployment insurance (I need to think about this one more, as I believe it may be a good thing in heavy regulation) and there are others that are FUBAR.

People work off individual rights and freedoms and this is the bottom line.

This is just my $.02.

The reason I support socialism has nothing to do with a Utopian society. As I don't believe that's a possibility... giving the nature of man kind.

Capitalism in its true form is an economic system which supports free market economy, not a Political system. Socialism spouts all are equal and as such equally qualified to do every thing. So if you're not a hypocrite, you are an imbecile.

Socialism is an economic system. Not a political system.

But it has only ever been established under a Dictatorial system with Socialism at its core, therefore it can be likened to a Political system.

[QUOTE="CRS98"]

I took the liberty to create a new symbol myself.

SOCIALISM!!!

EMOEVOLUTION

that's the spirit. That one isn't too bad. Except, it reminds me of Wal-mart.. which isn't a good representation of socialism.

Socialism...

Is this better? I just inverted a Union Army symbol.

Well, that's not true at all. But, I didn't create this thread to talk about socialism, so I'm not going to get into it. Care to share a new symbol for socialism? Assuming it stays within the guidelines of the TOS. It can be anything you feel best represents socialism.

[QUOTE="BumFluff122"]Certain parts of our lifestyle can be called socialist. Far more socialist than the US.

A bit more socialist leaning, but definitely not socialist.

no. Canada is capitalist but far more socialist than the US. That is what the US should be striving for. At least anyone who is serious about bringing more socialism to the US. If you use a symbol that signifies pure socialism more thna likely the residents of the US will see it as pushing communism.

Since the 80's, both of the parties capable of winning a federal election have advocated for the scaling back of the welfare state in order to entice corporate investment. Canada is becoming less and less socialistic as the years pass; university tuition rates are on the rise, employment insurance has increasingly restrictive terms and offers less, funding for battered women's support is being cut and nationalized childcare isn't even on the tables, there are debates about private medical practices in the provinces... the list goes on and on. Even associating Canada with socialism is something of a stretch, and is becoming more of one as the years go by. Choose a different symbol.
