[QUOTE="HoolaHoopMan"][QUOTE="NintendoNite"] stop what? I have taken an astronomy course and while there is observations that MIGHT suggest that the universe is expanding, we really dont know for sure until we can gather more evidence. That is what science is all about. Being able to find the truth while discarding any OUTDATED ideas. The big bang theory may become a discarded theory in the near future just as many theories in the past have. So sit down SONNiteLights

There is more than just "some" evidence to support the Big Bang. It's generally accepted as the model view for the shape, start, and expansion of the universe.

Since when? :? It's called the 'Big Bang theory.' Nobody can prove it completely. So until then, just a theory.

Learn the definition of Theory in the scientific sense, then come back and realize how your statement holds no weight.

'Aunifying explanation for a broad range of observations and hypothesis.' In your previous post, you're trying to make it sound more than just a mere theory. I was only stating that till this point it is only a theory. And by the way, read your other post again, because your assuming that it's generally accepted as the start of the universe and etc. And you also failed to back up your post with any evidence. So your post doesn't hold that much weight either, cheers mate.

The scientific term "theory" says absolutely nothing about the extent to which we think it's true. It's truly staggering how common the "just a theory" line is used...

The line "it's just a theory" is really nothing more than a tactic used by scientific illiterates in order to discredit said theory. Theories in science are the pinnacle of truth, it's a way of explaining phenomena. Theories are made up of facts, thousand of them. They are all encompassing. It's different from the everyday usage of the world "theory" like some passage from a Sherlock Holmes novel.

That's why when someone like you says "it's just theory", it raises a red flag which says "I have no idea what I'm talking about".

As for evidence, a quick glance through the thread would suffice. Redshift effect, composition of the universe, and microwave background radiation are just a few. A quick google search should fill you in.

Simple counterargument to TC:

Science suggests an unimaginably rapid expansion of the very very early universe indicative of a big bang. This contradicts your analogy to an asymptote which appears to diverge from the line of reference (in our case 0) very gradually early on, and increases in rate of divergence, if you will, the farther you get down the line.

Of course I understand your argument in general, but since you want to keep it simple, I'll frame my counterarguments to the specifics of your arguments.
