Oh, if they know Japanese then I could see why they might want you to know a bit. There's a ton of sites if you google Japanese phrases, which should help you a bit. Only problem is if a Japanese person tries to talk to you, you won't understand what they're saying.

I've been looking for sites to help me out but they either translate the word only into kanji or they do not have the phrase or something similar to it in their directory

Hope this link helps a bit. Not sure how accurate the pronounciation is, but hopefully you can say a few things correctly.
kay i'm traveling to japan for a school trip and i need to say some sentences to say stuff about me while im there. Now i don't know much japanese (ironic i know) but i need to be able to say:"I am seventeen. I am from ______ and i like art and music."
any help would be really nice. Thanks in Advancedeadface001
I am seventeen. = "Watashi wa juu-nana-sai desu."
I'm from _____ . = "Watashi wa ________ kara desu."
I like art and music. = "Watashi wa bi-ju-tsu to on-ga-ku ga suki desu."
If you're telling the same people all of this at once, you don't need to keep saying "Watashi wa" lol. I hyphenated some words so you can get an idea of how to say it. They might not understand where you're from if you don't say the name in the Japanese way. For example, San Francisco is pronounced, "San Fu-ran-shi-su-ko." If you're from a famous place, they should understand though.
Edit: I forgot that "i" sounds like "ee", "a" sounds like "ah", and "o" sounds like "oh" lol.
I found the most essential Japanese when travelling are the following:
Sumimasen : Excuse me
Kore wa : That (literally - that closer to me than you, use it when pointing at things)
Gomenasai : Sorry (I used this a lot when I knocked over a plastic vase filled with stones)
Kudasai : Please
Arigato gozaimasu : Thank you [very much]

Kimi ga hoshii: I want you.
Can't forget that one;)

My phrase book that I got (Lonely Planet) has pickup lines and even phrases to say during sex. How much of a buzz kill would that be to have a phrase book during sex? Anyway, my fave:
Daijobu, jibun de yaru kara : Don't worry, I'll do it myself
