of course you can. i consider myself a music enthusiast and i listen to everything, from some of the most unheard of artists (i.e. billy woods, genghis tron, holograms) to some of the most popular (i.e. kanye, jay-z, gotye). name dropping, i know, but you get the point. i'm open to just about everything....'cept top 40 country, my eardrums can't handle that shit.

The way I see it, I can't really control what I like and what I dislike. Some things are just more pleasing to my ears than others. I'm not going to pretend to dislike something that I truly enjoy just because I "shouldn't" like it.

I think Katy Perry's music is pretty mediocre overall. The only Katy Perry song I like without caveats is Hot & Cold.

As for Firework, I think the verses are pretty boring, but it does have a nice bridge and a big chorus. I guess that's more than you can say for most pop music these days.

Yeah you can, but the thing is, when music gets so mainstream, for some reason they sacrifice a lot of quality. Look at metallica and St anger.lightleggy

metallica is experimenting with the nu metal craze at the time which is fine by me, but the horrible mix and quality definitly makes it the worst album they produced.

Absolutely, having said that if you only like mainstream music, or top 40 stuff then you probably aren't much of an enthusiast.  If you like a large variety, then yeah.
