That is because we created God as a personification of perfected human virtues, and "need God" in order to live good, enjoyable and productive lives. What priests don't tell you, is that you don't need God or religion to be a good person or live a good life.

Hey guys, I was at church today when the priest said "We need god to do well in our lives, we need God to guide our lives" Thats when I thought to myself, "Well, how come Atheists are doing so well then"? What do you guys think? Do you think the priest just had a poor choice of words? Or do you believe what he said?TheArGaia

"What man can live and never see death?
Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah" Psalm 89:48

We need God to guide us in the right direction to do whatis good to the lord. We are not our own creation and it's our duty to do what's right and turn to the Lord for help in our lives.

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own" 1 Corinthians 6:19

Your priest is correct when he said that you needGod to do well in your life. But it's not just about doing well in worldly desires it's more about doing what's pleasing to god than anything.
Lies. It's only 9:20. You did not go to church :x
Why didn't you ask the pastor?
TheArGaia
Its about 1:20 pm here, and I go to a catholic church which is not interactive at all. We don't have pastors we have just plain priests, who are a problem because you can't get a straight answer from them..

They'll most likely say, read X or Y part of the bible you shall find your answer there my son And after you read you find a paragraph where Jesus went to an inn or something

He was talking about the big picture-- not just guidance for material things. There are rich people who don't believe in God, but I would argue that they are more in need of God than poor people [who don't believe in God] because the rich people are more inclined to think that they are responsible for everything they have (which comes from a large dose of pride).

So what are you saying? That atheists are materialistic?

He was probably referring to something other than what he might call "worldly" success.

+1 Thats the way I feel. I don't agree with everything in the church, but I do believe that there is a higher being.

You will hear many things at Church. Some of them won't be true. Remember that the man speaking there may have a fancy outfit, but he is still a human being that makes mistakes. And that can make mistakes in his Church speech. Use your own criteria to hear.

No one should believe in a god or any other explanation of how the universe and life started, because we don't know enough yet.

thats why its called a belief and faith. you dontt need to be certain about something to believe anything... basing on your logic, we shouldnt know anything, and I mean anything at all, because we werent born knowing a single thing, so if we didnt knew nothing why did we believed we could know more? see how your logic fails?

You know, this is one of those questions that Christians/Catholics can't answer otherwise it's going to be another smashdown with the Atheists, so I'll just keep quiet and spectate.

Lol this thread again.

God just leads you to the right place I guess. You don't need to believe that, it's your opinion/choice. You lead yourself. But believing in a non-physical being could possibly give you that inner-strength.
