I wouldn't get too concerned with the amount you're lifting but rather how you're lifting it. 30-35lb dumbbell curls is a great working weight, but it also depends on your goals; Are you trying to get stronger? Bigger biceps? Or are you just set on curling heavier set of dumbbells? :P I've always liked: standing barbell curl --> seated incline dumbbell curls --> preacher/concentrated curls.
