Sounds more like the Aztecs to me... and if you were taught to believe that only mass human sacrifice could save the civilization from the wrath of the gods, I'd bet you would it so as well.Well according to that, we can't really blame the South for wanting to protect slavery at the time of the civil war. They were born and raised around it. Anyway here's a picture of the Mayan calendar I googled, showing the sun god in the center and it shows it holding hearts in each of it's hands symbolising the sacrifice the people had to pay it. Interesting stuff.
