I really agree. I thought I was the only one noticing that it has been focusing on things going on in the real world. I liked it when it made up its own things, like the Mexican staring frog episode. Some of the ones they make up are just weird and/or disgusting to watch like the queef episode and the episode where the sex change was shown. i just think that they are running out of ideas and just use things in the real world to make episodes.
i do agree that it's cahnged a lot. but in the end i still enjoy it because of how it has consistantly taken the piss out of things that annoy me. things in society that annoy me, and pop culture trends that i can't stand. like PETA. i absolutely despise PETA. and what did south park do? it made fun of PETA. the ungroundables was also a prayer answered. i am in fact goth and prior to that episode, was fed up with posers. people thinking they're goth and dark but are actually just posers who listen to screaming angst filled music, and read twilight. South park totally took the piss out of them. it was priceless. i gotta give props to Matt and Trey. their understanding of the gothic subculture imresses me. i also loved the high school musical episode, and the Jonas Brothers episode. i hate the disney channel and all it's tween followers. so i was quite relieved to see South park take the piss out of them as well.
South Park is more than a comedy show, it's a voice. it has managed to go after political issues, and cancer in society that nobody else would do but in a smart and metaphorical manner. like the lice capades. that episode was meant to adress the harm that mankind is doing to the planet. but they did it rhough headlice. which was a good metaphor. that episode really made me stop and think about the fate of this world. South Park has also convinced me to not support hate crimes as well. in the hate crime episode the line "hate crime laws just make people think that blacks are different from whites" was said. and to this day remains one of the most thought provoking quotes i've ever heard. i do believe in racial equallity.
i'm going to end that before this turns into political thread and say that south park has done more than made me laugh hard. i think that despite some changes in the nature of this show, it has evolved into a show that goes where no other show dares to go in a corrupted. in the end, i would take South park over family guy any day.
For the most part I love what south park has become. Most people hated their Brittney Spears episode but I really liked it. They are becoming darker and more satirical. Sure their old stuff was great but I like their new stuff just as much if not more. We need good satire and south park is providing that rather better than they used to.
As the OP, taking this discussion seriously- I want to say thank you to all of you for your awesome and non-trolling responses. Great responses from both ends of the spectrum, and I am HAPPY to see that there are people who have faith in the show still, but more happy that there are people out there who actually see where I am comming from. And yes of COURSE I understand that South Park as well as other shows change, but the charm of old southpark- as most of you have said the "innocence" has been lost and it deeply saddens me. And yes, the Jackoffasaur episode was TERRIBLE. (And I love every episode besides that one) Bringing it back down to the "small town" level I read in a post hit the nail on the head. Its far to politically/pop culture driven. Thank you guys for your constructive posts!I really agree.
