[QUOTE="BonsaiMet"][QUOTE="albatrossdrums"] It isn't know for certain yet, but it has been suggested that the target was the Viacom building which is right nearby.Hexagon_777

Crazy. You can't say anything these days without angering someone.

Angering someone or not doesn't really matter, it depends on if the persons being angered will retaliate with extreme violence.

But we should not have to fear people who threaten extreme violence if they have temper tantrums about someones opinion. And we shouldn't concede to them and tell them "Okay, okay, we'll change our country if you stop threatening us."

Agreed. I am a big fan of your posts in another thread concerning itself with the same subject matter. :P

No, we shouldn't. But that's what's been happening for the last how many years, making eveything 'PC' and inoffensive as possible.

I find it odd that a white man in his 40's would try to bomb times square to kill Matt and Trey.

Something there doesn't add up.

Pixel-Pirate
That would be a fool's errand as Matt and Trey are nowhere near Viacom or New York : ) Even the bomb oriented disgruntled know this as the site that said Matt and Trey were asking for a dutch cartoonist situation also posted South Park Studio's address. Despite it being suggested and our police commish Ray Kelley saying they certainly wouldn't rule it out, it's entirely possible this had nothing to do with South Park or terrorists outside the USA. We just don't know yet. Could be most anything, but the audacity of it (and the ignorance, considering there are surveillance cameras all over the area) make it seem as if it was a desperate attempt to make a statement in response to something. But it could be a response to a belief that shape shifting lizard people have taken over the Broadway production of "The Lion King" (also near the car) for all we know so far.

SO far as I've heard, the connection to South Park and the bombing attempt is just hearsay at the moment, and pure speculation?

That would really be dumb if it was caused just cause of a satirical cartoon. I love South Park, and I believe Matt and Trey design the episodes in such a way that we always get a strong message about morality at the end. Long live South Park!DeadSarow

Yeah, like that one episode, the message really moved me. I will always remember to *beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepp* :P

I don't know what he was doing it for. Maybe he is just insane. I see no reason to immediately assume he was doing it for religious reasons. Why make a jump in logic and assume a 40 year old white male was trying to bomb new york because of south park?

And this a private website, which can censor you all they want. However gamestop cannot tell me what I can or cannot say off their website. There are consequences to saying certain things in real life. There should be no consequence for making fun of someones religion, and people should not back down and say "Sorry! We'll leave you alone because violent extremists are scary!". Thats the exact opposite of what should be done. Giving into the demands of possible terrorists is a very bad idea.

Freedom of speech is not "Say what you want but if I don't like it, it's free game to murder people." and we should never strive to make it that way. America would be a pretty crappy place if we were under the holy laws of religions that we don't follow.

Pixel-Pirate

I'm not saying freedom of speech is bad or anything, I'm not saying there should be a consequence for making fun of someone's religion, but regardless of what people think there is one. People handle it differently and extremist handle it the worst (obviously or they won't be extremist), again it's easy to say people should back down when you aren't the one going to be bombed for it. Also it's not a matter of following the holy laws of islam, it's a matter of respect, and while extremist take things down a really stupid road, the creators of south park should have been inclined to leave this subject alone, especially with what's happening these days. I am by no means exempting islam from being made fun of what I am saying is that if you are going to do it, prepare yourself for the backlash.

dr_octagon
Yes. What was unusual for me, as a long time New Yorker having been here for every major incident since the late 80's, I was noting how our police commish was not openly dismissive when asked if this could be a response to South Park. He said "we certainly would not rule it out." He's normally very careful with what he says so early in an investigation, so it lead me to believe the suggestion is not mere hysteria and COULD be the reason. Fact is there are umpteen targets in that area, including a military recruiting station. And even more obviously, Times Square is one of the most densely populated areas at any given moment and a car bomb would stand a chance of killing a good number of passersby, and perhaps that was the sole intent. Since they already have a video of a white male suspect and claim a tourist may have additional video of the perp - I think we are going to be hearing more about this sooner rather than later. Til then we can really only guess.

[QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"][QUOTE="RiseAgainst12"] Not a troll, there is a bomb found every other day atm here In Belfast.. and yet it still doesnt cause a fuss like this.RiseAgainst12

That just flat out isn't true. A car bomb, placed in a busy city area with the intention of killing people? Every other day? Nonsense.

Yea and guess what! they actually go off here. Maybe not just Belfast, but Across the North of Ireland yes. Bombs have even been found in residential area's by kid's even.

It's NORTHERN IRELAND.

Right, because extremists associated with other religions are totally non-violent.

Somebody will always get angry and that OK. Some people turn it into a life or death matter and try to bomb you

I agree with TC, i live in NYC exactly 10 blocks from Times Square.

With the person who tried to disregard this as Americans overreacting you must have never been to Times Squareand/or live under a rock. Saturday night atTimes Square is when ithas the most tourists by far, the damage it could have done to A LOT of people makes people a little shaky.

Me personally I'm not worried but everyone is different.

But Northern Ireland is a country, so calling it the North of Ireland is incorrect. That would be like calling Scotland the North of England, doesn't seem right does it?

What? the island is called Ireland so yes it is the north of Ireland.. where ydo you think 'Northern Ireland' came from? Also England is a country within the island of Britain.. it would be fair to call scotland the North of Britain. I grew up around it being called the North or north of Ireland so it is right by me, im not gonna force myself to say different.
