No such thing as too many comic book flicks. Reboot, sequel, I don't care... just give me more.

I like how people say it's too early for a reboot when Hulk got one immediately.

Spider-Man is getting a reboot for 2 reasons: Spider-Man 3 was horrible and Spider-Man 4 wasn't going to be good enough to save it (not in the direction it was heading). Vulture is a joke of a villain. Why they weren't taking the next obvious step to the Lizard is anyone's guess. Spider-Man's greatest villain was completely ruined in 3 and the end of that film completely destroyed chances of Carnage making an appearance. Raimi backed the franchise into a corner. A reboot is the only way to go. It will likely go into the Ultimate Universe, which in this day and age, is the smarter way to go.

Long story short: The reboot has infinite possibilities and Spider-Man 4 had None. This is good news, people. Calm down.

ugh, must we go through the origin story again? seriously, this reboot is so unnecessary it being released only a decade after the first and 5 years after the last. People will still have Toby fresh in their minds. sure 3 wasn't great, or even good.. but 2 was one of the best sequels I (and alot of people I know) have seen. 1 even helped launch this super hero phenomenon. at least see if the 4th one could redeem the franchise before hitting the reboot button.. it's not like any of these films were box office failures or anything. Raimi knows how to make a good movie, Toby knows how to act, let them do their magic one more time to see if it's tapped out. the only hope I have for this is if they can do the ultimate story line and eventually get a good venom out of it all.

I'm glad. A fresh start. This means SM 1 + 2 will be left intact in greatness. Here comes Evil Dead 4? :o

I hope they acknowledge that fact that there are heroes outside of Spiderman in the Marvel Universe. I mean, I know its supposed to be about Spiderman but comon if you have movies for the X-men, Fantastic 4, Iron Man, Hulk etc etc how can you not acknowledge them in the other movies Iron Man/Hulk being the exception sofar.

I find it really intruiging the connections companies have. On one had, Sony movies are in bed with Marvel (Spiderman) on the other hand Sony video games division are in bed with DC. Funny how 2 different divisions of the same company function as if they are independent entities. Anyways back on topic, I wasn't too fond of the spiderman movies. They werent bad, in fact they were good, but not as great as they are portrayed. I guess Marvel gets a lot of slack because Iron Man and Spiderman are both critically acclaimed movie series yet they suck. To be honest, I was more entertained by X2 than I was by either Spiderman Movie or Iron Man.

Considering how bad Spider-Man 3 was I don't think this is a bad idea at all.

I stopped watching Spiderman after the second, which wasn't very good. Reboot as a cartoon was cool, but I'm not sure how to take it as a movie.

Sounds good to me. After Spider-Man 3 there's no way I could look at Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker without thinking of this.

"Spider-Man will always be an important franchise for Sony Pictures and a fresh start like this is a responsibility that we all take very seriously," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures. "We have always believed that story comes first and story guides the direction of these films. As we move onto the next chapter, we will stay true to that principle and will do so with the highest respect for the source material and the fans and moviegoers who deserve nothing but the best when it comes to bringing these stories and characters to life on the big screen."

thats just so much BS it makes me angry....

translation

"Sam Raimi dosnt want to follow our rules and wants to have 'creative freedom', so we showd him the door" we really dont care about the property but know that it generates hella $$$$$".

This is no surprise considering how hard it would be to make a good movie to follow the utter crap Spider-man 3 was while being congruent with the screwed up story.

EVOLV3

because it would be illegal for sony. Sony owns spider-man and fox owns X-men. They cannot do cross over with Marvel's productions. Marvel doesnt own the rights to spider-man.

Why make a reboot, which will likely be bad, when they could just put it off for another year or two and write a new script.

Major bummer.

I really hope they go ahead and make 4 even if they have to start from scratch. I REALLY don't want this "series" to be over. Sure 3 was terrible, but 2 is still one of the best comic book movies around andthe 1st,despite being pretty corny is still good too.No Tobey Maguire will probably kill any Spiderman movies that are released.

Maybe in like 20 years or so a reboot would be alright, but as of now I want them to continue on with Tobey.

I hope they just make it R rated. Frees them up for making an awesome movie. I mean, how the hell could you have a movie based in NYC without one f-bomb?
