FOTR: 4, TTT: 2, ROTK: 11/11. 11 wins out of 11 nominations is pretty amazing in my book.

And again, (how to phrase this)Return of the King is the only film that got a lot of nominations and won all of them...ok, Titanic got 15 nominations, but only won 11 of them, Ben Hur got 17 nominations but only won 11 of them...those three are the top three movies for Oscar wins. Not that that matters I guess...

I hated the acting and dialogue use in the newer SW. They tried to make funny remarks at times when it shouldn't be funny. Peter Jackson, I think, did a great job making the viewer feel the tone of the movie.

LOTR wins by a long shot, it has a much deeper storyline then SW. Every setting, race, event, and character has a story behind them. Tolkien even evented his own language which I'm pretty facinated by. Overall I think the LOTR universe > Star Wars universe.

Lord of the Rings, mainly because it's backstory is explained entirely through the main books and The Silmarillion. Star Wars' universe is so huge and is constantly expanding through books, video games etc., it's overwhelming. And the Star Wars prequels were not very good at all.

Star Wars easily owns them all. LotR was good, but Star Wars is just classic.

tolkien's world is deeper and full of better stories. then again, i do like fantasy more than sci-fi anyway.

LOTR also has the best battle scenes. You can't compare with the hundreds of thousands of orcs, elves and men in the Last Alliance, or the battle for Minas Tirith.

Well I wouldn't say the Star Wars universe is deeper than LOTR's..I mean Tolkien created an entire history and world that is alluded to within his books, and there are other books in the LOTR universe, while Star Wars is just Star Wars with stuff added on by other people (like the other universe books /comics / games...)

Anyhow Star Wars IV was awesome, the rest were 'meh' and LOTOR 1 was AMAZING and the rest pretty much sucked.... LOTR I > SW IV...

watch the special extended editions... that should change your mind. each adds between 30-45 minuted to the movie. adds like an hour to the rotk.

You know Hayden Christensen (Or however you spell his second name) who played Anakin , was an awful actor. The acting in LOTR is far superior to that of Star Wars (at least the new ones)

I prefer LOTR by the way.
