AHH as I type this I am watching LoTR. Just picked up the Blu-ray Extended edition that just came out on Tuesday(with figurines). I never like the Star Wars movies. There was just nothing there.

for a set of movies that was made with old technology star wars is good imo..............but star wars lacked action (the action sequences werent gritty and lacked punch) though the story line is a marvel, lord of the rings gets it right in every department !!! comparing the 2 would be wrong as they were made more than 20 years apart. i dont know how many of u have seen the STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC cinematic videos made by BIOWARE but imo the STAR WARS MOVIES should have been like them !!! meaning action and set pieces !!!poovannaorcbaneLuke finishing off Vader in VI is one of the best action scenes in the trilogy.

it had such awesome displays of emotion. i prefer that to "gritty" flashy action scenes.
If this is only referring to the movies, I can't fathom why anyone would say LotR.
The original Star Wars trilogy is a cultural phenomenon and has been for decades. The LotR movies were special effects driven mediocrity, basically on par with recent super hero movies, and they don't even really represent the content of the books.
Don't get me wrong, they were entertaining, but better than Empire? Rediculous.
There are many reasons why you would pick one over the other, but my biggest premise to base it on was which I like better, sci-fi or fantasy. So I choose LOTR because I've read the books and seen the movies a few times. I like fantasy and historical type fantasies. Another reason why I like Game of Thrones better than shows about aliens (V, Falling Skies, etc which I like as well, but not as much). I also like Camelot and liked Legend of the Seeker when it was on. Fantasy type shows.
Star Wars (old episodes).. LOTR became extremely tedious especially at the third and final movie in which half of it was a pointless CGI explosion in front of my face of stupid and ridiculous battle.. Not to mention the movie seemed like it was going to end some 3 times, with a long pause.. AND then continue.. sSubZerOoLOL, that ending was incredibly drawn out. When I saw it, people in the audience started laughing everytime the scene changed from what they thought was the finale.
