I'd love an explanation of how people think a movie based series and a tv show based series are directly compatible....oh well, off to bed.

Both are more than just a movie series and a TV series. Read the books.

Both.

But if I had to choose, it would be STAR TREK by far. Ignoring the putrid JJ Abrams film, I would say the franchise has been somewhat consistant.

SW Episodes I-II-III killed it for me, in many ways.

Star Trek for the actual Science. Star Wars for the fiction entirely. Star trek was always more interesting to me because of the science and the inter relations involved. It was always really nice at just how much information they could covey and give to the audience. Also, epic space battles. Star wars was entertaining but it was mostly an action flick. Course, it was pretty much movie based unless you read the books, so that is expected. Typical hero, who typically rises from rags to the best of whatever makes both him AND the nemesis special. Good duels, decent space battles. Yet it really is just, an action flick. We have bigger ships, bigger cannons, and this force thing. You really pull nothing else from it. Well, outside of life moving on after you kill your sister.

I completely agree. Star Trek TNG is highly superior.

And I never was into Battlestar Galactica but I just started watching it recently.

And DS9 is superior to TNG, it refined and expanded the trek formula to the point of perfection.

Ive only seen the Q episode out of DS9. I had heard that that series wast that good. Maybe I should watch it...

Trek, though i did not pay TOO much attention to either. As for the recent movies, i felt the star trek movie was better than episodes 1-3

i like some aspects of star trek mainly Next generation characters and enterprise..but i hate everything else about it.. the lame "phasers" its like its the only weapon they have... "set to stun" BORRRRING starwars has better characters / weapons / ships / universe. IMO and better music too.

Star Trek. I've seen about 90% of the VOY & TNG series. As well as about 50% of DS9 and ENT. All the movies as well. I remember back in HS I read through both editions of the encyclopedia and I frequently visit the Memory Alpha website to look stuff up for kicks.

Nothing agianst Star Wars I rlly like that too. I just never got into it as much as the Trek. I find SW a little too much fantasy with the Force powers and light saber battles. It's a little too much like magic hocus pocus stuff for me. The Trek seems, more realistic? I guess that's why I have always liked it more.

Star Trek. Star wars is a great action flick yes but it lack the necessary depth and character driven nature of Star Trek. Not only does Star Trek have 1000+ television episodes it also has 11 movies and dozens of books attributed to it's cannon. Star Wars on the other hand has 6 movies a few canon books and a TV series. It cannot possibly go as in depth as Star Trek, it cannot explore the culture and language of multiple species like Star Trek can. It also does not have the probable scientific possibilities that we see litered throughout Star Trek.

Trek, Star Wars seems just idiotic in comparison. I liked the political deception in Star Wars but the rest is just idiotic Sci-fan

Star Trek by a mile. Never really got into Star Wars all that much. Sure, I liked it when I was a child, but it doesn't hold up at all when viewed objectively at an older age. That, and the new movies were so bad they kind of tainted the older series for me. Trek, on the other hand, never gets old for me. Even Voyager and Enterprise (to a much lesser degree) had their strong points.

Star Trek has better centeralized and believable characters than Star Wars.. Star Wars has better extended universe.. But both are inferior imo compared to Warhammer 40k.

Star Wars definitely has broader appeal and there's a lot of cultural bias against Star Trek so I'm not surprised. But reading through the actual posts I find those in favor of Star Trek to be more informed and subsequently more convincing. Of course I'm not saying that there are some good arguments for Star Wars - the books and videogames seem to be better (I wouldn't know first hand but this certainly looks to be the case) and The Empire Strikes Back is probably better than any single Star Trek film.

i like science fiction a bit more than fantasy so i have to go with star trek.

tbo ST vs. SW is a terrible comparison.

they are not even remotely in the same category.

Star Trek has better character casts, but there's something about wielding a lightsaber fighting to protect the galaxy from the evil sith that makes Star Wars so special.

I like Star Trek better although I prefer the interconnected universe and timeline of ST: TNG-DS9-Voyager. I like consistency such as when Starfleet changed uniform styles in First Contact. DS9 followed and then Voyager once they reestablished contact with the Federation.

Star Trek. Plinkett ruined the entirety of Star Wars for me (except the unadulterated original trilogy, that is still a science-fiction masterpiece; shame it is almost completely unavailable anywhere... and oh my did Han shoot first... hell, Greedo didn't even GET to shoot, lol).

Though, Plinkett did ruin the Generations-on movies for me as well... I can still appreciate TOS, TNG and VOY and I to VI for what they are.

That's because a lot of people have only seen the Star Wars films and choose that by default. People who have actually enjoyed the wondefulness that is the Star Trek tv shows are more determined to express our opinion because its actually based on something and we've seen Star Wars too. Its not just a case of "I've never really watched Star Trek so I guess I'll pick Star Wars".

I'd rank Mass Effect at the same level as Star Trek. Mature and sophisticated.
