I never thought this was a fair comparison, because LOTR was a series of books. I Based on the movies alone, I would have to choose Star Wars.
The first two Star Wars movies (Star Wars: ANH and The Empire Strikes Back) are some of the greatest movies ever, Return of the Jedi is VERY good too but ruined somewhat by Ewoks and a few lame deaths.
Lord of the Rings series is also so good... so it's hard for me to choose but nostalgia says the original Star Wars trilogy (the Prequels ARE NOT STAR WARS MOVIES, but advertisements and technical demonstrations from George Lucas).
Star Wars is still better. freakin' Hobbits.jediknight52501Better than your freakin Ewoks, bro.
george got a chance to use the high budget and special effects with the new star wars movies. and still couldnt hold a candle to TLOTRHow is LOTR movies better than sstar wars movies? I would love to see peter make his movie with the budget and special effects that George had to use....
Morphic
I enjoy both, and prefer A New Hope and The Fellowship of the Ring over all the others. I think Star Wars fell on its face when they put in the Ewoks instead of the Wookies, and The Lord of the Rings stumbled a little when they didn't include a lot of major things (like Tom Bombadil) and put in Arwen for Glorfindel.

Tom Bombadil was such a stupid character :|.. The threat of the total destruction of the world looms over our heads.. This ring can be felt by the great evil any where.. We have but two choices.. Go down a extremely dangerous path that will lead to death and destruction.. With a slim chance of succeeding... Or give it to Chuckles the Clown in the log cabin in the woods..
Is it true that Lucas only added Ewoks for merchandise?
Crimtmp
Don't forget the two movies they did for the Ewoks.
Lord of the Rings by a country mile.
Lord of the Rings is still just as amazing as when I first saw it. The Star Wars movies were forever tarnished (read: RUINED) by the horrible prequels.
Peter Jackson is amazing, while Lucas is an embarrassment.

Back on topic. Star Wars > LOTR. Lord of the Rings uses the standerd fantasy formula (Though, Tolken invented it, so credit to him) while Star Wars shows the "good guys" are terrorists. My reasoning? The Rebels assassinated the beloved Emperor Palpatine, and Murdered hundreds of thousands of civilian workers when they destroyed Death Star 2. The evil side won in ROTJ, plain and simple.
The "Rebels/Jedi are evil" argument has never made a lick of sense.I love Lord of the Rings but as a hardcore Star Wars fangirl, I support the Force in this debate. :P
Just to give you an idea of how hardcore I truly I am:
I have watched each film (even the {Phantom Menace) more times than I can remember and can literally recite them line by line.
I have a turtle named Yoda and refer to his habitat as his Jedi Temple.
I have read ALL of the Star Wars books.
I have played every Star Wars video game.
I have a Star Wars chess set.
I refer to myself as a wookie. :P
I haven't seen a Star Wars movie (other than the prequels) in going on 10+ years, and I don't care to rewatch them.
I never read the LOTR, only watched the movies.
But LOTR, just because not everything associated with it is such **** now.
No matter what entertainment medium you look towards, Star Wars is just so overdone, tired, and finished.
You've got like, the original trilogy, KOTOR, a few old, classic games, and thats it.
And they just keep ****ing killing it.
Its gotten to the point where if I hear "Star Wars", I immediately ignore whatever it is, because I just know it isn't worth it.

The prequel trilogy had an enormous budget and he completely ruined the series.

They're no more evil than any victor in any war ever.
Hell the Americans dropped an atomic bomb on a country that had little more than women and children as a remaining army, doesn't mean it was evil.
Just grey. Thats what all war is. Grey.
But that wasn't the point of the films.

You're trying to argue about the prequel trilogy, which makes no sense anyway and has so many plot holes its not even worth thinking about.
If you get into an arguement about it you're just going to make your brain hurt, because I can easily sit here and talk about the entire Clone War was something not a single citizen even cared about and how it was barely even a war, since the two sides that were fighting consisted of robots and clones and therefore the only actual casualties were the Jedi themselves.
The entire power struggle in the prequel trilogy doesn't even affect the flow of civilian life. We never see anything remotely close to an actual war since neither side's non manufactured armies even see much of the conflict.

And the Original trilogy didn't have plot holes?Oh, I'm crazy? Those f*****' hobbit movies were boring as hell. All it was, was a bunch of people walking, three movies of people walking to a f****** volcano!

You can't even see any affect the Clone War has on anything. Everyone just goes about their business acting like its nothing. People go to night clubs, eat out all the time, go to huge parties, drive a bajillion space cars everywhere. Its like the war isn't even going on. Its a huge war between robots and clones. Nobody gives two ****s except the Senate and the Jedi.
Most people in the Galaxy probably didn't even know who Palpatine really is.
Give me Star Wars. I will always prefer the original Indiana Jones movies to either trilogy, but the pacing absolutely kills LotR. I love Two Towers, but that's the only movie I want to watch out of the three.
